The National Dairy Show was a great success at the Green Glens Arena on Saturday, and much thanks for its success goes as usual to our own local organisers. They leave no stone unturned every year to pave the way for the elite of the bovine world to come and show off their valuable stock and everything that goes with them. There was Flower arranging and Cookery demos for the ladies, so a great time was had by all. Well done all round.
This week beginning on Thursday we will have the annual pony show, again at the Green Glens. Patrons come from all parts of the country to take part in this show which is run every year for charity. The tiny tots on pony back are lovely to watch, The final night which is Sunday night is an event not to be missed when riders who have reached the age of 16 have to move on to a higher grade, Their graduation ceremonies are a must to see, with fancy dress, pony antics and lots more. Admission is free throughout, and all are welcome.
There is a note here from Our local Comhaltas Group asking people if they have any musical instruments that they no longer need. The group would be very glad to have them to give to young people who maybe held back from the joy of playing music just because they cant afford an instrument. An extremely nice Art and Poetry exhibition was held over the weekend at O’Driscolls in the Square. Organised by Le Cheile, it was opened on Friday by Senator Dan Boyle. All the work of the exhibition was done by the Asylum Seekers at Drishane. Their verses are a heart-rending expressions of their quest for freedom. Having left in fear from their own home countries they still find themselves bound and restricted by the laws of the world at large. All they want is a chance to get on with their lives and until the can do that, let us at least offer them a little warmth and friendship.
The AGM of our Community Council will be held on Tuesday October 26th, at the Youth Centre.
The AGM of Parents Association of Millstreet National Schools takes place on to-morrow Wednesday night at the Youth Centre starting at 8.30. All parents please attend.
Out at the Glen Theatre they had to pack then in for the three One-Act Plays at the weekend with some of our young actors from Millstreet, coming in for awards from the judges at the Ballincollig drama competitions. Many congratulations to young Stephen Healy, and Donagh Murphy who excelled themselves on stage. But the good news is that they will put the three –act plays on again at dates yet to be decided.
But before that, on this Thursday night Oct. 21st they will have Gospel Music and Blue Grass .
Sunday next 24th. The Shoe-String Theatre ,Charleville will stage their Play entitled “ A Night in November”
And on the following Friday Nov.29th Five Lamp Theatre present,
“ Dear Frankie”, with Nuala Hayes. All shows start at 8.30. 029-56239.

Millstreet GAA is supporting the Cork County Board promoted Clubs Fund Raising Draw with another new series underway.
Millstreet were defeat by Freemount in the Duhallow Junior B Hurling League semi final,
They were also defeated by Kanturk in the Duhallow U14 Football Knockout Championship Final.
Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at Corkery’s Bar on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were, 1, 6, 29, 30. and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Patrick, Connie, and Caroline Daly, c/o Corkery’s Bar.
