Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Reporrt 1059 from Millstreet.

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this  lovely fine sunny Spring Morning.

All of our dreams came true here over the weekend with the outstanding success of our first ever Walking Festival. We are so fortunate to have such brilliant scenery literally on our doorstep. This was a feature that was remarked on over and over during the weekend. And not least by walker supreme Mr. Tom Scriven, who was guest speaker at the official opening on Friday night. The launch being carried out by our new TD, Aine Collins. Thanks to the impeccable planning by our organising committee, everything went according to plan. The Good Lord blessed their efforts with fine weather, and throughout the two day event just under 500 people of all ages and from all walks of life, scaled our mountains, walked on our moors and wallowed in the beauty that surrounded them.

The nerve Centre on Saturday was the Wallis Arms Hotel, which sent walkers on the New Loop walk of Clara Mountain, as well as another directly to the cross on its summit and for the more experienced as far away as Ballyvourney.

On Sunday they converged on the lovely Country Park. For a climb of Mushera Mountain and a walk in the Park as well as another trek from Ballyvourney.

The visitors left with an avid desire to return and please God this is just the beginning of even better things to come. Hats off to the brave organisers who took it on, and made it so successful.
