Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this wet, but brightening  Tuesday morning.

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was here at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were 2, 9, 16, 29 and  the lucky winnner of €10,000 was Virginia Brosnan, Rathduane, the lucky seller was Tommy Tucker and he got €1,000 sellers prize.

€20 each went to the following ten people. It’s Horse week in Millstreet and it’s going to be big. As an International event it will attract the best from places like the UK, Denmark, France, Italy, Canada, and the USA and of course Ireland.  Stabling for 1200 horses is available on the grounds of the Green Glens with many more booked in the area. Already the venue looks amazing, beautifully adorned with bright flowers and plants as well as colourful jumps and seating  and other features.  Extra food outlets have been added , and there is always adequate  free parking.

A huge array of trade stands are already up and ready for the days ahead. I could go on and on. With thousands of entries, the show will run early and late, from to-day August 7th to Sunday 12th and the good news is that admission is free all the way. Even the weather promises to be good.

As always there is a great demand for accommodation and those with good facilities to offer.  Please  get your name in to the office at the Green Glens right away  029-70800. Self-catering houses are also needed.

Pubs and food outlets in the town are bracing themselves for the week ahead as are the other services in the area. Our Summer Show is very important to our economy and gives us the lift we need in these trying times.

On behalf of our Community, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish the Duggan Family and all connected with our Summer Show a very successful and safe week.

Out in Carriginma the Pub there is putting on their Summer Fest, in conjunction with the Show. The popular Scottish singer Johnnie Bremner is there on Saturday  night ,” Back on Track” on Sunday afternoon from 4 -6 , followed by Spailpín from7-9. A great evening is assured.

A note from Jack Roche to say that Ceoltoiri Sliabh Luachra will present their Musicial Trail through the History of Ireland, at Bruaich na Cairraige, Rockchapel on this Saturday night August 11th. Starting at 8.30 sharp. Contact number is 087 220 55 66.

Church Gate Collection this weekend 11/12 will be in aid of our Museum. It’s their only means of support so please give all you can.

Friday 17th August:  Centenary Celebrations/School Reunion Dinner Dance at the Gleneagle Hotel, Muckross Road, in Killarney.  Music by Ger Murphy & Friends.  (Partners, friends and family are all welcome). Book on the famous BARD  by his great-grand-son Barry Keane, will be launched on Saturday August 18th. Copies are on sale at Wordsworth book store. Published by the Aubane Historical Society.

Sunday 19th August. Afternoon at Aubane School/Community Centre.  Centenary mass at 1.00 pm. Roll books on display. Unveiling of centenary plaque, school classroom re-enactment, photographic exhibition and pageantry of various kinds in the school and in the festival dome. (Free Admission)

Monday 20th August. This year is also the 37th Anniversary of the Aubane Social Club and of the set dancing at Aubane Community Centre.  Tim Joe & Anne O’Riordan will supply waltzes, two steps, jigs, reels and hornpipes.

Sport.

On Bank Holiday Monday, Millstreet Juvenile GAA hosted a successful Duck Race on the river Finnow on Clara Road. [see the article with photos from the race]

Last evening, Millstreet were defeated by Newmarket in the North Cork U16 Hurling Championship semi final at Milford.

Finally do come and enjoy Our Millstreet Summer Horse Show. Admission is free and the wet conditions make no difference to the horses on our ALL Weather courses.
