Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this rather wet but mild Tuesday morning.

Monthly meeting of the Community Council to-night at the Youth Centre starting at 9. All members please attend.

It was another busy weekend here in Millstreet which saw our brilliant Minor Hurling team win the County Final, defeating Aghada in Coachford on Saturday afternoon. The pipe band was out to meet them on their arrival back in Millstreet where they lauded for their great success.   They took the Cup around the town and their sense of pride was plain to see. Well done to them and to all associated with them.

And our U10 Football team won the shield in Canovee on Sunday under the careful guidance of trainer Tadgh O Donovan and his helpers.

Our juvenile GAA club would like to say many thanks  to all those who took part in their sponsored fun walk which was a huge success.

A very successful flag day was held in the town on Friday, in aid of Cancer research. Organised by John P Kelleher, it raised €835 for this worthy cause and he would like to say many thanks to all those who helped him with the venture.

 

A great crowd took part in the Trails Walk on the Clara Loop on Sunday after noon, organised by IRD Duhallow. It started out from the Wallis Arms Hotel at 1pm and on their return at 4 they were treated to some welcome refreshments and a group of young musicians entertained them with some lovely traditional music until 6pm.

In Motor Rallying Daniel Lucey and Derry Healy came 1st in their class and 5th over all.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery to the popular Finbarr Buckley who had a hip operation recently.

Our Actively Retire Group with celebrate their 10th anniversary on Tuesday night of next week October 16th. Mass in the parish church at 7.30 following by a social evening at the Wallis Arms Hotel, music by Patrick O Sullivan. Adm.€5.

 

And the Aubane Social Club will hold their annual Fancy Dress Ball in conjunction with the Wallis Arms on Friday October19th. Wonderful Prizes to be won. Proceeds will go to our Day Care Centre.

 

Our lovely Country Park is open to all free of charge for the coming months. Restaurant will be open. For more information ring them at 029 70810.

 

A note from John Magee, Chaplin at our Community School to say that on Friday October 12th a Trad for Trocaire event will be held at the Community School starting at 7.30. It will be an evening of music,song and dance with the aim of raising funds in support of Trociare. Please support it well.

On that day the school will welcome four visitors from Belgium

Two teachers & lecturers who are part of the Trocaire efforts to help the needy.

 

Kilcorney Community Gym will hold an enrollment night on Friday October 19th from 7 to 9 pm  and all are welcome.

 

A notice about our Youth Club to say that parents of young people in Secondary School interested in setting up a Youth Club in Millstreet are invited to a meeting in the Youth Centre on to-morrow Wednesday Oct 10th at 7.30 . For more information contact 087 277 49 19.

 

 

Knitting club continues every Tuesday night at the Adult Learning Centre Main St. from 7 -9

 

The Millstreet Singing Group have their session every Thursday night at the Parish Centre from 7.30. New members always welcome both men and women.

 

Macra

Rebecca Enright, James Kelleher and Gary McSweeney won the regional round of the impromptu debating but unfortunately lost in the National semi-final last Saturday!

Steven O’ Riordan has  been nominated as Best newcomer to Macra which is an AIB/Macra competition  and  is designed to award a member who is deemed  to have made a significant contribution to the development of the club during his/her first year of membership. The winner will be announced at the national rally which takes place over the Bank holiday weekend in Waterford.

 

Children’s Book club opens at our local library this Saturday Oct 13th at 12noon. Suitable for 10-13s.

A gala night was had by all at the Launch of William FitzGerald’s Cork Music Station at the Hazel Tree last night, and some good funds raised for the Cullen Special Needs Association.

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Sunday night, Numbers drawn were 1, 5 ,9, 27 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Emma Barrett, Rathcoole the seller was Noreen at the Post office and she got €50 sellers prize, €50 went to Eimer O Mahony, Clara, €20 each Margaret and Brian Murphy, Cloghoulabeg.  Angela McAulliffe,  Mount Leader.Noel Collins, Clara Rd. Patrick Healy, Murphy’s tce. Kathy Ann Murphy, Kilmeedy, Nora Tarrant, Tarrant’s Bar. Breda and K O Leary Drishane Rd.and Phil Sheehan Keim. Jackpot for next week €3,800 the draw at Tarrants Bar on Sunday night.
