Three members of Millstreet Town Park Committee visited John O’Keeffe at Teach Altra, Newmarket this Friday morning (22nd Feb. 2019) to reveal the very impressive Dedication Plaque to John who was truly delighted with such an uplifting gesture. The Plaque will be put in place at the Bridge within Millstreet Town Park next week. We thank Denis Hickey for sharing the two images taken in Newmarket this morning. And we’ve drawn from our Millstreet Museum Archive a very happy picture of John & Lena taken on 18th July 2006 photographed across the road from Centra in West End. Click on all images to enlarge. Lovely photo of Johnny and Lena which captures their tireless work with the Tidy Towns down the years. They had true civic pride in their town. It’s also great to see Johnny looking so well. They deserve this fitting recognition of all their hard work.
Angela – Your wonderful comment regarding the truly superb contribution of Johnny and Lena to Millstreet life is one with which we all so thoroughly agree.
What lovely memories of this lovely couple flooded back to me this morning as I opened Millstreet .ie. Johnny was an Insurance agent for many years and called to my house regurarly and we had the cupan tae and lovely chats and many is the trip Lena would join him as she lived only a mile from me. “Ni beidh a leithead ann aris, an beirt acu” Johnny looks so well TG and the accolade is well deserved. I still can see them both now picking up butts of cigarettes etc. early in the mornings when alot of Millstreet people were still tucked up in their beds.
