This week it is with great regret that we learn the news that our beautiful Country Park will not be opening, this season. And on behalf of the Community Council I want to convey our deep feeling of regret to the Sheehan Family. However it is both pleasing and encouraging to read on the media that they are asking the public for help and advice as to how this state of the art facilty could be turned into a profitable and useful venture for the years ahead.
It’s a bit away yet but already plans are afoot to hold a gala parade through the town in July to welcome in the European FEI Eventing Championships which will run from July 19-23rd. We remember with pride the events of 2016 when young riders from 30 countries paraded if full regalia through the Main Street of Millstreet.
Good news also about the future of our beloved Post office. I had a few words with our new Postmistress, Julie Kelleher, who informed me that the facility will remain in situ, and is about to get a big overhaul. The office will be made much bigger, with many more services on offer by way of application forms for many of our needs readily available for the customer to pick up. Further to that the lunch time closing will be no more. Our two lovely ladies inside the counter, Noreen Murphy and Margaret Hartnett are to remain as well as part-timer Francis Ring. And all going well there will be an official launch of our new-look post Office at Easter. The main thing now is that we support our Post Office.
All are invited to Aubane on Friday night next February 24th when their social Club will make a presentation to Noel Keating who has retired following many years as their faithful Post Man. Starts at 8pm.
The Aubane, St.Johns Club will hold used clothes collections early in March so please start to prepare for that now.
