Just one month after the highly successful FEI young riders Championships, which were held here last month, World Class Green Glens/Drishane equestrian complex will resound to the sound of horses again this week, for the Millstreet International Eventing Discovery ,Horse Trials, for 4 to 5 year olds. They will bring competitors from many foreign countries, the show will run from Wednesday August 23 to Sunday August 27th.
All Green Glens services will be up and running, admission is free and there is ample free car parking.
We wish the Duggan Family and their staff every success with this event and hope they get suitable weather.
I want to say a fond hello to all the students who got the results of their Leaving Cert last week and wish them Gods help with the choices that they are about to make. Adding as always that there is a place for everyone.
And congratulations to our many young people who are doing so well at the All Ireland Fleadh in Ennis. Far too many for me to mention.
Our Pipe Band was very busy over the weekend. Featuring at the opening of the Rose of Tralee on Saturday and the Béal na Bláth commemorations on Sunday. The band which has many new young members has featured at both of these events for many many years. And the two founder members, Tim O Shea and Liam Coffey, who no longer play but still accompanies the band to all their engagements.
Jerry Lehane wants to recall that Millstreet U14s Football team won the County in 1957, beating Upton in Macroom.
Jerry also tells us that the Sacrament Baptism was conferred on a little baby here on Sunday who was the grandchild of the well known Jim O Brien who had a fruit stall in our town Square for many years . Jim was very popular with all his customers are we were sorry to see him leave 17 years ago. He sends his best wishes to all his friends in the area.
Our annual September Horse Fair will be held on Sunday September 3rd.
We welcome many of our people who are home on holidays at the moment and wish them a pleasant stay. To name but a few, John D Neenan is home from Miami.
And Tommy Sheehan and his lovely wife Breda (O’Leary) are home from Australia, And the mark the occasion their friends from the Slanan Rovers Club have planned a get-together to be held at the Clara Inn this Friday night. And all are welcome.
The people of Carriganima are holding their annual fun day on Saturday September 9th. Comprising of a walk or run or cycle starting at 3.30. Registration at the pub from 2.30.
Every good wish to the Millstreet Vintage Club who will hold their Vintage and family fun day in our Town Park on Sunday next August 27th from 1pm
Their program will include a display of Vintage cars and tractors plus lots of fun things for the children. And it’s all in aid of the Cancer Connect Service which is a free and flexible transport service to Cork Hospitals for those needing cancer treatment. So please support it well.

The Catholic Young Adults Conference will be held at All Hallows Dublin on Sept 2/3 for 18 to 40 year olds.
The Legion of Mary in the Kerry Diocese wish to sponsor two young people, they will cover all expenses, travel, accommodation etc. Contact 087 9048659.
A notice on the Mass leaflet at the weekend says that due to the shortage of Priests, from September 1st 2017 there will be no funeral masses on Sundays.
However removal of remains to the Church will take place on Saturday or Sunday evenings.
