Well there is only one thing to talk about, and that’s the snow.
It brought our worlds to a standstill for a couple of days, and maybe that was not a bad thing. For a short time we were able, or were forced, to look at life from another angle and what emerged was nothing short of amazing. People became people again and not beings who fled off into their own world every day, with not a moment to greet or get to know who lives next door or down the road. The heavy snow brought them out of their cocoons to realise that those living in these places had names and were up for building a snowman and indeed some advanced snow art. Those who put their creations on social media spread the joy to the whole world.
Every slope became a piste with young and old sliding down in gay(fun) abandon. Outside of that people looked after one another in so many lovely ways. I could go on and on but the bottom line is now that the world is becoming snowless again the friendships that were born of the blizzards will not melt away.
Our annual March Fair almost fell victim of the adverse weather with just about a few stalls setting up for business and a small number of horses attending, there were calls on social media for a repeat effort at another date, but there is no conformation of that at this time.
At the weekly Weigh-In in Cullen last night 30 people weighed in and 30 pounds weight was lost. Next Monday marks the end of their annual fundraiser, for another year, It will be a night of prize giving and feasting for all those who continue to support the great work of Cullen Special Needs Association.
The Community Council will hold a meeting at the Wallis Arms Hotel tonight to plan this years St. Patricks Day Parade which will be held at 5pm on March 17th. This meeting had to be deferred because of the snow last Tuesday night. All interested bodies please attend.
Here are the results of this weeks lotto draw which was held at Corkerys Bar last night. Numbers drawn were,7,21,22,32 and the Jackpot was not won.
€100 went to Patrick Murphy, Pound Hill, the seller was Corkerys Bar and they got €50 sellers prize, €50 went to Shy Man ,c/o Michelle Whelan. €20 each to the Magpies c/o Corkery’s Bar. Gearoid Moyhihan, Dernagree, Betsy O’Sullivan, c/o the Hotel, Peter Horgan, Kilmeedy, Mary Collins Dooneen, Journey to the End of the Earth, c/o Corkerys Bar, Teresa Buckley, Macroom. Jackpot for next week €3,000, the draw at the Mal Passo Bar on Sunday night.
Coffee Morning for Active Retired ladies at the Parish Centre on Friday morning March 9th from 10-11,30. It’s in aid of International Womens Day organised by the Transition Year Students of the Community School.
St, Patricks Day Parade in Rathmore next Sunday March 11th at 2, and in Carriganima on Sunday March 18th, at 2pm. Please support them well.
Annual Table Quiz in Aubane on Friday March 30th, Good Friday, at 8.30.
