As always the wheel of Millstreet keeps on turning and this past week was no exception. We had our St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a mountain climb, West Cork Rally, plus a mighty Rave Concert on Sunday at the Green Glens, attended by over 4000 revellers, to name but a few. And all went off without any bad incidents or injury. Baoichas le Dia.
Our St. Patricks Day Parade was made special as the one and only couple Daniel O’Donnell and Majella dropped in to be our Grand Marshals as part of their their countrywide travels to film their popular RTE program, “Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip.” A certain amount of confidentiality surrounds all these things and all I can say is that you’ll be seeing it on your screens in a few months time.
We were blessed with a cold but dry afternoon, and the crowds turned out in the thousands to cheer our renowned guests. Ireland’s win over England earlier in the day had them well psyched up for the parade at 5 o’clock and the pubs and food outlets, and taxis etc. did a roaring trade.
Our eleven thirty Mass on Sunday was enhanced by a recital (the Highland Cathedral) by our wonderful pipe band and joined by organist supreme Jane Daly. It created moments of sheer joy which left a lasting effect on all who were there.
Out in Carriganima on Sunday their 3pm Parade was held in spite of drizzling snow. But not deterred they made it a very enjoyable event. Once again people power was to the fore, and with all hands on deck our St. Patricks weekend was an outstanding success. Well done all round.
Our weekly Lotto Draw was held last night at McCarthys Bar. Numbers drawn were 11,25, 28,32, and the Jackpot was not won.
€100 went to Bridget Dineen, Drishane View, the seller was O’Learys, and they got €50 sellers prize, €50 went to The Higgins Family England, €20 each went to Ciaran Murphy, Kilmeedy, James O’Leary The Square, Sean Casey, Rathmore, David O’Mahony c/o Michael Walsh, Katie Ray, c/o Willie Ray, Conor OCallaghan, Rathduane, Joe Healy ,Station Rd. and Miriam Kelleher, Carrigacooleen. Jackpot for next week €3,400 the draw at the Clara Inn on Sunday night.
All roads lead to Scartaglen this Saturday night March 24th where the Handed Down Series will present an evening of Traditional Music and Musings in honour of the Late great Johnnie O Leary.

The season of Lent is drawing to a close, and we have have a line up of important religious events to come before Easter Sunday on April 1st. Next Sunday March, 25th is Palm Sunday. Palms will be blessed at all Masses, to be kept in the home to keep it safe throughout the coming
year. Followed by Holy Thursday, March 29th, and Good Friday Mar.30th.These are very important dates in our Church calendar and we are all asked to attend the services with reverence.
Easter Sunday is on April 1st and Monday a Bank Holiday giving us another Bank Holiday to enjoy.
The annual Daffodil Day Collections will be held in the Town on this Friday Mar 23, Please support them well.
Our Gramophone Circle will hold them Monthly meeting this Friday March 23rd at the Day Care Centre starting at 8.15 and all are welcome, Guest presenter Margaret Moynihan, Killarney Rd.
Our Millstreet Monument Committee, will hold their annual Easter Commemoration in the Town Square after 11.30 Mass on Easter Sunday, Oration will be delivered by Gerry White author and Military Historian. All welcome .
