Cllr John Paul O’Shea recently gave an update on the upgrade works at Millstreet Community Hospital:
“Currently completing Phase 1 of its refurbishment and their design team is currently reviewing existing layouts and accommodation in line with HIQA requirements and it is envisaged planning permission will be sought for Phase 2 of the refurbishment in early 2019. Both hospitals must adhere to the Health Information & Quality Authority National Standards for Resident Care Settings for Older People.”
This is good news, but it looks like Phase Two is still a long way away. In the Seanad questions and answers last Thursday (May 17th), in response to Senator Colm Burke’s questions on Kanturk and Millstreet Hospitals, Junior Minister Catherine Byrne TD said that the planning application would be 2019, construction hopefully to start in 2020, and finalisation in 2021 … so three years before phase 2 is complete
