“Where the Road Take Me” at 7 This Evening on C103

This week on Where the road takes me, John Greene speaks to a Cork based Kerryman who reflects on an unusual childhood.

Gearoid Cheaist (Kesht) o’Cathain was reared on the Blasket Islands without priest, electricity, doctor church or school. National Geographic magazine referred to him as the loneliest boy in the world.

The home of Peig Sayers and Tomas o’Criomhain got it’s name from the Norse word ‘Brasker’, meaning dangerous place. Although it was such a place, it was still home to a closely knit community.

Gearoid is now the only surviving member of that community, and shares his story on Where the road takes me – this Sunday evening at 7 – on C103.
