Oh dear, the common cold has caught up with me. They say there is no cure for it, so i’m determined to make myself as comfortable as I can while it takes its course.
The town and a lot of the surrounding countryside was rocking to the boom boom of the Work Shop music fest which was held at the Green Glens Arena on Saturday with fans being bused in from many parts and bused out again when it was over.
On this coming Saturday October 20th, the pleasant lowing of the country’s prize livestock will fill the air at the same venue for the National Dairy Show. The previous day will see them arriving in their beautiful wagons and brought inside where they will be put through rigorous preparation to make them look their best on the parade ring next day. It’s an interesting sight to watch them being prepared. It involves a full body shower followed by a full body blow dry and then a hair trim, making every rib of hair play its part in the final result which could lead to a rapturous win or a disheartening defeat.Specialists are often brought from abroad to carry out this work, and tail extensions are often used to enhance the final appearance. And at the end of the day they are carefully returned to their box to be ready for the next show. And devoted owners often lay down beside their beloved animals for the night. All very interesting.
The Green Glens is a wonderful place, where there is every comfort for man and beast.
The following weekend October 26th -28th it will be turn of all creatures great and small in the horse world. The annual pony Owners Show brings tiny children riding tiny ponies and bigger ones on bigger animals who will graduate to a higher class on the final hours of Saturday night October 28th. Admission is free for this event and a wonderful spectacle on our doorstep.
Our Community Singers attended the Come Follow Me devotions in the church on Saturday night with the children who are next for First Holy Communion and took part in the Mass. Each one was represented by a lighted candle on the Alter rails and parents took part in the readings.
The list of our Church Services are displayed on the notice board in the Church grounds and also the latest account of the parish Church debt. Which now stands at €1.078 m, well down from the original €4 m. The weekly contributions are read out every week by the priest at Mass and he thanks the community for their continued support.
The people who are engaged in the various classes and courses at the Adult Learning Centre went on a coach trip to Killarney on Monday where the dined and viewed the local beauty spots on a lovely crisp Autumn day. And a great time was had by all.
