Well the last of our Equestrian events for 2019 are over for another season. Except for the Pony Owners Show on late October. The planes of Drishane did the business again last week when the cream of the worlds bloodstock took part in the challenging events on our World Class course which is Drishane. The weather was kind and the grounds held up well under the pressure of the galloping hooves.
Well done once again to Noel C and the Duggan Family .
Meanwhile life goes on in the parish of Millstreet with many of their young people winning their way to many top awards in various challenges at the All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Drogheda, and the Cullen Pipe Band coming 7th in the world at a challenge held abroad. The weekend saw the passing of the lovely Anna Hartnett ,(RIP) brought family, friends and acquaintances from all parts of the world, and sadness and joy were intermingled over the days of her funeral. Our sincere sympathy goes to her family and we wish all those who came from afar a safe journey home.
This is the last Tuesday in August, and the long holidays are almost over for school goers. Secondary Schools are already open with the National ones not far behind. Children grow a lot during the Summer Holidays so the mad scramble for new uniforms, footwear, school bags, pencils, copies, lunch boxes etc,etc, arranging school transport is the order of the day.
Children moving up the ladder to a new school will be uptight at the prospect of meeting new fellow students and new teachers. Little ones starting for the first time finding it hard to leave loving parents and indeed visa versa. But somehow it all seems to settle down and life goes on. Health and safety is a big factor of course and no stone will be left unturned in teaching the rules of the road and everything connected with lifesaving in the home and outside of it.
With the opening of the schools ,there will the customary upsurge in the amount of traffic on our roads and streets, when again common courtesy and care will play their own part in keeping everybody safe and well. Always bearing in mind that a smile can do an awful lot to iron out a tricky occasion.
Our Community Council are asking everybody to join in, in the preparations for National Culture Day September 20th. They are planning to have a big Show in the Town Square. Inviting people to bring along samples of their work, entertainment ,hobbies, antiques, crafts,etc. The E Centre will be open for knitting, photographs, crafts and others. So please get ready to keep the wheel of Millstreet turning by showing it off at it’s best on All Ireland Culture Day on September 20th 2019.

Hedge cutting is in full swing at the moment, making our roads look trim and very presentable, but alas the speedy machine is tossing a massive amount of bottles, cans, plastic bags etc,out on to the roads. I hope that something can be done to gather them all up as soon as possible, as they are ruining the look of our approach roads to our town.
The Knocknagree Development Association ,which is supported by the Cork Co. Council and IRD Duhallow CLG, are hosting a public meeting at their Community Centre on Monday September 2nd, starting at 8. They are inviting everyone to come along and have a say in the future of this historical village. Please support it well.

Annual Grandparents Pilgrimage to Knock Shrine will be held on Sunday, September 8th at 2.30 pm. Chief celebrant Bishop Kevin Doran, Bishop of Elfin. Combined Choirs of Knock Parish and Dana will sing, Our Lady of Knock.
The organisers of the recent Church Gate Collection in aid of Cuan Mhuire, which amounted to €1,750.52, would like to thank all those who supported it so well.
There is a notice on our Mass Leaflet this week to say that Mass bookings for 2020 will be taken at the parish Office from Monday September 2nd. And people are advised to include all their deceased members in the one Mass.
Please support the Eucharistic Adoration which is held in Millstreet Church every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10.30 am to 10.30 pm In Cullen on Thursdays from 10 am to 7 pm. And in Ballydaly on Saturdays from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm.
Be reminded that slips of paper are provided in each church where you can write down your request to the Lord put in the box that is provided. This box will be placed in the Adoration Chapel where your request will be included in the prayers of all who worship there. Knitting Club meet every Tuesday night from 7 to 9 and the Men’s Shed open on Tuesday nights at 8. 45 Drive at the Canon O’Donovan Centre also on Tuesday night at 8.30 sharp. Please be on the look out for some hobby or class that will help you to meet new people and enjoy the months ahead.
