October the first, it seems only like a few days ago since we had the start of September. But the month did give us some nice sunny days and gave us a chance to enjoy the great out of doors and admire the beauty of nature. Land owners got on with harvesting their crops and storing up the precious winter feed both for man and beast. The lovely Mountain Ash, (Rowan Tree) excelled itself this year with the amount of berries it produced, the limbs were weighted down with its mega crop of bright red produce. Blackberries were also there in abundance but the hazel nuts and wild damsons exceeded them all. I don’t know how many people collect these fruits nowadays, but having known them since youth harvesting them every year brings back vivid memories of carefree happy days of climbing trees and devouring the fruits of nature long into the Winter months.
Global Warming or warning, we hate to talk about it but its becoming a reality and the consequences have put us all on the same level, rich or poor, regardless of race or colour, it has put us all at the same risk. A risk that we must all fight together for the common good. So please follow the rules, do what the experts say we must do to bring our world back from the brink. It’s sad to think that the little children had to take to the streets in their thousands to tell the world that they are afraid. Afraid that the world that we are leaving behind for them won’t be fit to live in. They deserve better and we owe it to make it better for them.

A gala event was held in our Town Park on Sunday when football competitions were held for children of various ages which were followed by refreshments in the GAA Hall plus the presentation of Medals.
The Faith and Light Group was lucky with the weather on Saturday when they held their annual Mass and singing at Tubrid Well . They finished their visit to Millstreet with food and more singing at the GAA Hall. The organisers sent a message saying how well they enjoyed their trip are were grateful for the help they got locally.
I’d like to extend a fond welcome to any people who are visiting our place at the moment. When children go back to school, it’s often a time when the more senior people take a break.
The Fundraising for the Air Ambulance goes on and on this Friday night October 4th the Donal Guiney Memorial Table Quiz will be held at McCarthy’s Bar. Starting at 8.30. A great night is assured. Please support it well.
The Millstreet Vintage Club will hold their annual Toy Show on Sunday, October 13th. This time it will be held at the K&L Depot at Mountleader. A show not to be missed.
45 Drive at the Canon O’Donovan Centre every Tuesday night at 8.30. Admission €7. Cards have resumed at Ballydaly Hall on Sunday nights, starting at 8.30.
These are friendly, relaxed card drives and all are welcome.

Church Gate collection in Cullen this weekend is in aid of their Community Hall.
Active retired Group meet every Thursday morning at the Wallis Arms Hotel 11 to 12, for teas and coffees and a friendly chat.

The friendly knitting Club is held every Tuesday night at the Adult Learning Centre from 7 to 9. Always includes the Cup o tea.

The next equestrian Show at the Green Glens will be at the end of this month,October 25 to 27. It’s the pony Owners Show and is run by pony owners every year for charity.

Eucharistic Adoration in Millstreet every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10.30 am to 10.30pm in Cullen on Thurday’s from 10.am to 7 and in Ballydaly on Saturdays from 10.30 to 12.30. Please support this powerful form of prayer . A box is provided on the table at the end of the church and slips of paper where you can make a note of your request. Place in the box and the box will be placed in the adoration room where your request will be included in the prayers of all who worship there.
The constant warnings of the possible adverse weather conditions due to the possible approach of Hurricane Lorenzo, gives us reason to pray for the safety of our people and our country in the days ahead. Please take the utmost care of yourself, and of those around you.
