Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a Cairde and welcome to News report 1045 from Millstreet.
Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this very cold but dry, Tuesday morning.
A special New Year Greeting to William Foley, Cork city Busman and his wife Phil, they listen in to the repeats of C103 programs at night when he comes in from work and never misses my news report.
And now I want to wish you all a very Happy and prosperous New Year.
It was indeed a Christmas with a difference, right throughout Europe and beyond. And leaving many people, never wanting to see a white Christmas again. The happenings were well published, so there is no need for me to go down that road, but it has to be said that merit due to all those involved in the travel business, who bore the stresses and strains of it all, without one loss of life or even an injury.
But the worst of situations always brings out a lot of good and it was great to hear of all the acts of kindness that came to the fore. People looked after needy neighbours, etc. and the feeding of the birds was a pastime in itself. A thrush feeding off the window sill can add joy to even the worst of days. Frozen water systems brought their own difficulties and for the first time ever when people were invited to a party, they were asked to please bring water as well as the customary bottle of wine.
Our Christmas night Mass was held at 10.30 and we were very honoured that Dan Joe Kelleher came to record it for his program on LTV next evening.
Countless events fell victim of the weather but still some survived, Santas helicopter didn’t make it to Carraiginma, but he came himself. And the hardy annuals who climb Mushera every Christmas Day were there in force again, and on New Years Day down at Dooneen a large number of people braved the freezing waters of the mighty Black Water. Both events were in aid of various charities, so well done to all concerned.
Sean Radley and others made sure that our people in all parts of the world were kept up to speed with the weather situation at home. They posted numerous pictures on our webpage on a daily basis, and in turn, messages came in from the most amazing places around the world, thanking Sean and his colleagues for keeping them updated.
And at this point I’d like to remind you that fundraising will begin in earnest for the presentation to Sean which will be held at the Green Glens on February 19th. So please give generously.
I want to say many thanks to the crew of LTV2 who kept our flag flying when some of us were not able to make to the weekly recordings.
The many events that had to be cancelled are slowly coming to life now.
The thaw came on time for Our Annual two-day coursing event . It went ahead as usual on the last two days of December, with a large crowd attending, and lots of local winners. Look up our website for details.

For the first time ever we have a huge bash for the ladies, at the Wallis Arms Hotel this Thursday to celebrate the Women’s Christmas. Organised by Mairead Daly, the tickets went like wild fire with many hopefuls on a waiting list. So I want to wish all our women a very Happy Women’s Christmas on Thursday.
As we head off into 2011 we have lots to look forward to with the annual machinery show coming to the Green Glens in Mid-January. And others events yet to be confirmed ,Public presentation to Sean Radley there on February 19th.
There are plans to re-vamp our Youth complex. Our development Group are planning a walking Festival in the Spring and a Welcome Home Festival in July. The bridge across the Black water at Dooneen will become a reality this year as part of the Bearra Brefni Way. And if we show as much concern and co-operation during the next twelve months as we did during the Snow then all of this will become a reality.
Lots more local TV coming your way this week at all the usual times.
