We thank Presenter, John Greene for advance information on this Sunday evening’s programme – 31st Jan. 2021 at 7pm on C103. (S.R.)
This Sunday evening in the first of a two part programme on ‘Where the road takes me’, it’s a pre-lockdown journey through the vast parish of Ballinhassig.
John Greene begins in Ballinhassig, where police shot dead eleven people during a faction fight in 1845. However, there was little time to dwell on the tragedy, as the famine came hot on its heels and provided more to worry about.
Later, but not far away, the McCarthy family move to London after being evicted from their home. Their son Liam is born. His name is now synonymous with Michael Collins and Sam Maguire. As a result, the local GAA pitch is named in his honour and the cup for the winners of the All Ireland senior hurling championship bears his name.
A journey through the parish of Ballinhassig – the first of a two part programme on Where the road takes me, begins this Sunday evening at 7 on C103.
