Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this rather wet but calm Tuesday morning.
It was another action packed week here in Millstreet with many, many people working on a voluntary basis to make Millstreet a better place. Let me remind you once again that Judging for the Tidy Towns Competition, at all levels, starts in June, and will go on right through the Summer months. So
please make a visible start on what you plan to do in your own place. I’m asking road users to please stop throwing litter out of their car . This problem has improved, but you’d be surprised at those who still have not taken it on board.
The STRINGS Concert which was held at Drishane Castle on Friday night was a joy to behold. It was given by some of the boys and girls of the students of our Community School under the musical direction of their teacher, Emer Twomey/Foley. Following the recital some very nice refreshments were served downstairs and a raffle held. The organisers want to say a very sincere word of thanks to all those who supported them in any way. Not least among them the Duggan Family who gave the spectacular venue free of charge.
The open air Mass at St Mary’s cemetery on Friday evening last was very well attended. It was said by Canon John FitzGerald was assisted by Fr. Dan O’Riordan.
A very pleasant function was held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday night last when the organisers of this years Vintage Rally presented the proceeds of the event, which amounted to €6,000, to four needy cases. Well done to all concerned.
Still with fundraising, the pupils of our Boys National School held what they called a Move-Athon in the Town Park yesterday and raised €1,000 for their school fund.
There is a notice here to say that due to a sad bereavement, our Bingo here in Millstreet, will be cancelled on this Thursday night.
A million congratulations to Tom and Joan Meaney, Rathrue who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this week. We wish them all the very best in the years ahead.
Great celebrations coming up at Derrinagree School on Tuesday of next week. June 12th. They have been awarded the Green Flag in appreciation of their Green Approach, to litter and waste, and the Army Band will be there for their big occasion. All are welcome, Time not yet decided.
The official opening of Cullen’s new National School takes place on this Saturday June 9th, beginning with Mass at 10am. All welcome.
The Annual Feis will be held in Cullen on Sunday June 10th. Starting at noon, they will have their Band parade, plus all the usual attractions, and open air entertainment starting at 3pm. We wish them fair weather.

Millstreet overcame Cullen after extra time in the quarter final to the Ducon Cup and progress to play Rockchapel in a semi final in Boherbue on Friday with an 8pm throw in.
Well done to our Golfers, Denis Hickey who won the Captains Prize at Kanturk for the second time, aAnd 17`yr old Diarmuid Fraser who won the Captains Prize in Killarney.
