A very interesting meeting of the Community Council was held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Tuesday night. Topics for discussion included the upgrading of our Youth Centre and the fitting of Astro-Turf surface on our tennis courts. It was also decided to host a community Council Awards Social this year at a date yet to be decided. Eileen Murphy reported on our Youth Club, and said that there are 64 members now with parents coming to help on Friday nights when they meet from 8 to 10 Theres room for more, but more parents must come on board with the increase in numbers.
The after school service will resume after Christmas. The Defibulators have now been placed at the Youth Centre and at the Garda Station. The full list of trained personnel will be announced in the near future. Joseph Lawlor was co-opted on the Council, on that night.and before the meeting ended a special Presentation was made to Fr. Gerard O Leary on behalf of our Community.
The annual New Years Day Swim at the Blackwater will take place again this year, Proceeds to Irish Cancer Society, Night Nurses and LTV2. Sean Murphy is one of the brave contender in aid of LTV2, so give him your full support. Refreshments will be served on the River Bank, sponsored by Super Valu.Sponsorship cards are available from the organisers.
The Christmas Day Climb of Mushera Mountain goes ahead as usual this year, organised by the Aubane Social Club .Starts out at 10.30 All are welcome and proceeds will go to the Baby Jacob Fund.
And following the spectacular concerts for the same cause which were held in Drishane, copies of a CD by Marina Cassidy are on sale at the Green Glens at €10 each Proceeds again to Baby Jacob.Ideal gift.

Here are the results of this weeks parish lotto draw which was held at the Mal Passo bar on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were 6, 11, 15 ,22 and the lucky winner of our €2.000 jackpot this week was Danny O Mahony, Kilcorney and formerly of Murphys Terrace. The seller again this week was Margaret Burke and she got €200 sellers prize.

Still with money matters, The Big Draw and Dance, organised by John Joe Herlihy, Knocknagree in aid of the Kerry Hospice and Mary Mount Hospice in Cork raised €22,000 for the cause. Raffles were held with up to 60 sponsored prizes to be won. The winning list will be on our Web Site in the near future. Mary FitzGerald was the local agent for this great fundraiser so well done to Mary.
The Cullen Special Needs Association want to thanks all those who made their Christmas Mass and Party the great success that it was over the weekend.

The marquee will be open from 12 – 5 pm from the 17th to 24th December with seasonal music playing in the town square.

A FUNDS for Africa Mass was celebrated at Boherbue Church at the weekend celebrated by Fr. Martin McCormac ,and music by Heart to Heart. It raised good money for Fr McCormac’s missionary work in Swaziland. And the fund is still open.

Millstreet defeated Dromtariffe in the Duhallow Junior B Hurling Championship semi final at Castlemagner on Sunday last. The final is fixed for this weekend against either Banteer or Kanturk.
Also down for decision over the weekend is the Duhallow Junior B Football League Final between
Millstreet and Lyre.
ATHLETICS
The popular Duhallow Athletic Club Road 5 mile Road Race promises a record number of entries for the Newmarket to Kanturk showpiece on Sunday commencing at 2pm.
Organisers relate that all proceeds from the upcoming staging will go to Marymount Hospice. The official race starter is Regina Donnelly, Chairperson of the Friends of Marymount Hospice. Sponsorship cards are available from Jerry Twomey, Catherine Higgins and Shane Browne.
