Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News report 1258 from Millstreet.  Fondest Greetings dear friends and I wish you all the best on this rather cold and showery Tuesday morning.

Our Lotto Committee had no less than two reasons to celebrate in the past week. On Thursday night they held their AGM at the Wallis Arms Hotel. For the past 21 years this has been an occasion for  joy and celebration every time.  With the treasurer’s Report bearing proof of the wonderful success that this venture continues to be and saw each of the members namely our GAA Club,The Town Park and The Youth Ameniety Complex receiving €30.000 each in the past year. And over €39,000 paid out in prize money. Copies of the Treasurers Report are available on request . As always sincere thanks was extended to the general public who continue to support the local lotto which is doing so much good for our community.

At the Election of Officers the existing panel were re-elected in block. No one wanted to see such a hardworking and dedicated committee replaced. They are Co-Chairmen Denis Twomey & Noel Buckley, Secretary (and a lot more) Marie Twomey. There are about 35 people involved in the day to day running of the Lotto. Representing the Town Park ,The GAA, and the Community Council for the Youth complex.

Every care is taken in the running of the lotto to ensure accountability and transparency.  Following the draw, the tickets are taken and counted, (by Brendan Bourke) and they are checked against the amount of money brought in.

Following the AGM a wonderful four-course meal was served by the Wallis Arms Hotel and a social event went on until late.

Next reason for celebration was on Sunday night ahead of the Draw. At the Wallis Arms Hotel the Cheque for €18.000 was presented to young Michael Walsh, Sallies Cross, Kanturk.who was the proud winner of  one of our biggest Jackpots ever. On his first week working at Apls electric ,Michael  bought one of our tickets and the prize was his. He was visably overjoyed by his good luck. Lucky also was the popular Noreen Tarrant, Liscreagh who sold the winning ticket and got €1,800 sellers prize. Secretary Marie Twomey who presented the cheque congratulated the winners and wished them well.

Sean Radley was there to capture it all of his camera and in a very short time he had it splashed on our website for the whole wide world to see.
