Greetings, dear Friends, from Millstreet as we share  Regional Report No. 1281 on Tuesday 1st Sept. 2015.  Full audio details of this week’s report may be accessed through the c103 website (www.c103.ie).

Eily Buckley (for whom I’m presently deputising) is making great progress following her recent knee procedure.

Millstreet International Horse Trials last weekend – were totally magical at the exquisite Drishane Estate and at Green Glens.   Some really important personages from the Equestrian World were present and expressed their heartfelt enthusiasm at the splendour of the overall setting especially the magic of the Drishane Cross Country Course.    And also blessed with ideal weather conditions on Sunday, 30th August the annual September Horse Fair in Millstreet Town brought a large number of colourful standings while there appeared to be a decrease in the number of horses.

We thank Daniel Igigabel of Pommerit le Vicomte for very kindly updating us with some excellent pictures on the current visit of members of  Millstreet Twinning Association in Brittany for the 30th Anniversary of our official twinning between our two communities.

Millstreet Tidy Towns Association will be looking out for the result of the National Tidy Towns Competition which is revealed in September.   With the extra addition of some exquisite floral arrangements throughout the town put in place at the beginning of the Summer it is hopeful that this will have a significant effect emerging in an even more positive result for Millstreet this year.

A truly magnificent special event during National Heritage Week  took place at the weekend when the Barry Family Lackabawn Vintage hosted an Open Day with Industrial Design as the Theme at their exquisite setting in Lackabawn, Millstreet.   The proceeds were in aid of Millstreet Day Care Centre.  The newly renovated display is utterly outstanding and a tremendous credit to the amazing dedication of John & Anne in the collection of the hugely interesting historic gems over the years.   Their son Dan and his wife Ann have designed a Centre equalling any national or international historic display with delightful themed rooms including a kitchen, a bedroom, a forge, a garage, a piggery, a dairy complex to mention but some.   The official opening on Saturday 29th August in the presence of Millstreet Pipe Band was performed by John Barry after which Guests were treated to a wonderful barbeque, a guided tour and a mighty singing session.  On the Sunday in excess of 600 people arrived to view the awe-inspiring display.  The Hartigan Family field was kindly made available for the very necessary parking.   This Project deserves significant Government funding so that it could be opened on a permanent basis such is the importance and quality of the Lackabawn Vintage Centre.

The official opening of the newly equipped and refurbished Millstreet Community Council Gym near the entrance to Millstreet Town Park on Monday 31st August was an outstanding success.   Coordinator supreme of the new Centre – Denise Neenan – expressed her delight at the very impressive launch which was blessed by Canon John Fitzgerald, P.P. and was jointly opened by Canon John, Denise, Noel Buckley and Deputy Áine Collins.   A full feature including opening hours and rates appears on the Millstreet website.

We wish the children and teachers a very happy and fulfilling School Year ahead.
