The days are wearing down, only about ten days to go. Little children will be glad, and not just because of Santa but they are weary from being good. As for the parents, well they’ll have no more leverage once Santy has arrived.

The shopping craze goes on,  in spite of the elements the crowds are out.

Our local branch of St. V de Paul held their annual church door collection at the weekend and it was very well supported.

Our Community Council held their meeting  on Tuesday night at the Wallis Arms Hotel. Pat Murphy, in his report, said that up to 130 people registered for the Text Alert Scheme.   Road Signs are to be erected at various places in the district.

The popular Garda Pat Roche retired recently and Noel Buckley thanked him for his many years of service  and wished him well for the future on behalf on our community.

Chairman Noel gave an indepth account of many of the projects that the Council have been involved in over the years and are now providing  wonderful services for our people. Further new equipment is on the cards for the Adult Gym .

The Solar system which was installed at the Youth Centre during the Summer, is proving very beneficial. And the Astro Pitch is busy all the time. The children of the local boys school are allowed play there every lunch time and its booked out in the evenings by the various clubs.

 

Marie Twomey gave a rundown of the sales of  2016 Calendar, which is available at many centres around the parish.

Before closing the meeting Mr. Buckley wished everybody a Happy Christmas and thanked them for their attendance during 2015.Some lovely refreshments were then enjoyed by all.

Next Community Council Meeting will be on January 11th  2016.

Our Community singers attended the Vigil Mass on Saturday evening last  and later enjoyed a gala social outing to the Old Trialgle in Macroom.

 

Many congratulations to the lovely Joan Twomey, formerly of  Ivale, Kilcorney, on being awarded a special medal from Pope Francis in recognition of her great work with religious orders for the past 54 years. A very pleasant function was held in her honour, at the Poor Clare Convent in Cork on Wednesday night. It was attended by Bishop John Buckley who said the Mass and made the presentation. Joans Brothers Dan, Mickie and Matthew attended as did  many members of her extended family.

Poor Clare sisters rarely leave their inner sangtum, but in honour of their beloved Joan they all attended the ceremony  and the lovely meal that followed.

 

Many congratulations to two of our local priests who celebrated their Golden jubilee together in our church on Saturday last.  Bishop Timy Carroll and Fr. Dan Cashman  both joined the SMA Order in 1958. and worked for most of their lives in Africa. The celebration on Saturday was attended by Canon John fitzgerald, Fr. Sean Tucker and Fr.Paddy O Byrne as well as family and friends.

Following the Mass they all enjoyed a meal at the Wallis Arms Hotel.

 

One of our Community School students, Siobhan Sheehan is the first student of our community school to be awarded the JP McManus Scholarship which is open to students from all over Ireland. Mr. McManus came to Millstreet to make the presentation. Siobhan is only daughter of Michael and Joan Sheehan, Minor Row. We congratulate Siobhan and wish her every success in her future studies.

 

Hats off to Tony  our Craft butchure, on winning two awards  in the sausage section,  at the top European Awards show ,which is held in France every year. The two gold cups are proudly sitting on his counter, in Minor Row.

 

Here are the results of this weeks parish Lotto draw which was held at the Clara Inn on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were,

2, 14, 16, 28 and the Jackpot was not won.

The Millstreet GAA Christmas Draw will b e held  on December 23rd .1st prize €200 hamper.  2nd €100 hamper  3rd prize €50 hamper.

 

Millstreet Gramaphone  Circle will be held at the Canon O Donovan Centre this Friday december18th at 8.15 and all are welcome. Presenter Margaret McCarron from Bandon and Cullen.

 

The Annual Climb of Mushera Mountain  organised by the Aubane Social Club, will go ahead as usual on Christmas Day, starting at 10.30. Proceeds to the Men’s Shed.

Please be aware that there are many places around the town where you can donate food or clothes for the needy. At O Regans Mills, Hanelie is taking all sorts of dried foods, and good quality warm clothing . Mary at Guys and Dolls Hair dressing Salon  is taking similar items.

 

And again please forgive me for asking you to shop at home this Christmas. There is plenty to choose from in our many stores and services.

Penetential Services will  be held in, Dromagh, and Rathmore Churches on Sunday December 20 from 3-6 and in our Church on Tuesday December 22nd. From 7.30 to 8.30 pm.  The Blessed Sacrament will  be exposed and visiting priests will be available for confessions.

 

The annual Special Collection in aid of our Church Restoration Fund will be held at all Masses  Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

 

The Novena of the Divine Mercy continues on Sunday at 3pm.

 

Eucharistic Adoration every Tuesday & Wednesday in Millstreet Church and in Cullen from 10am to 7 on Thursdays.

 

Confession in Millstreet Church every Sat. from 12.30 to 1.
