Many congratulatons to our own Joanne O’Riordan who did us proud on St Patrick’s Day as Grand Marshall of the mighty Dublin Parade.

The year is moving on the clocks go forward this weekend, and we seem to go from one exciting event to another. This being Centenery Year I suppose adds to the workload of keeping everything in vogue.

The weather in recent times added to the enjoyment of the St. Patrick’s Day Parades.The people of Carriganima had their’s on Sunday (March 20) and as always they didn’t disappoint. It was very well supported and like all such events, it draws communities together. The planning involving many meetings beforehand and the event on the day, which requires every hand on deck to get it right. Many congratulations  Sean and Matt at the pub and all their helpers on a wonderful job well done.

This is Holy Week and Church Services will get top priority in the run-up to Easter Sunday, which is regarded in many countries as being more important than Christmas itself.

On Wednesday we will have the Penitential Rite in our Church, which proved so popular last time. It will be held from 7.30 to 8.30 .Visiting priests will be available for Confessions and the Blessed Sacrement will be exposed.

Devotions on  Holy Thursday, will be in Cullen at 6.30 and in Millstreet at 8.

 

On Good Friday The Lord’s Passion, in Cullen at 6.30 and in Millstreet at 3pm.

 

Holy Saturday Polish Mass –Blessing of Bread 2pm and Easter Vigil at 8pm.

 

Confessions After Church devotions on Holy Thursday & Good Friday and as usual on Holy Saturday from 12.30 to 1.

 

And I have a notice from the Methodist  community in the town to say   that during Holy Week their base  known as the Lighthouse will be open all week, as  a prayer room, from 8am till 8pm Monday to Saturday.   This place will be for anybody to call in to pray quietly themselves, or just a time to reflect, in peaceful surroundings. The friendly Eileen O Riordan Dromsicane, may even make you a cup of tea.

 

Many thanks to the Methodist Community who gave out  nice warming teas and Coffees, free of charge, during our St.Patrick’s Day on Sunday.

The Divine Mercy Novena will start of Good Friday, and after the ceremonies and will continue each day in the Church at 3pm until Sunday April 3rd.

 

On Easter Sunday the 11.30 Mass will be celebrated for the 1916 volunteers.  Our Monuments Committee will hold their annual Parade through the Town, led by the Millstreet pipers Band.  At the monument in the Town Square their ceremony will include the reading of the Proclemation, the Irish Flag will be raised and a decade of the Rosary recited. The Oration will be given by the popular Tom Meaney. And please be reminded that the Book, Ready, Willing & Waiting  By Noreen Meaney is on sale over a wide area. Please give this parade your full support.

 

We have lots of ShowJumping events for you to enjoy almost non-stop from Thursday March 24th to Sunday April 3rd.

 

Monday March 28th  and Apr.3 will be held in Drishane. All the rest will be held at the Green Glens. Admission is free all the way.

 

Here are the results of this week’s parish Lotto draw which was held at the Mal Passo Bar on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were,3, 13, 26, 32 and the Jackpot was not won.

€100 went to Triona Carroll Drishane Rd. The Seller was Tom Carroll and he got €50 sellers prize. €50 went to Paddy Kelly,Dublin. €20 each to Lisa Reen Rathmore, Aoife Rea.c/o Mary O Connor. Michael Kelleher, Gneeves, Mary O Connor, Coolikerrane, Aisling O Mahony Freemount. Constance Markievz, Ballydaly, Dan Kelleher Macroom, Michael O’Sullivan Kilmeedy.

Jackpot for next week €8,600 the draw on Bank Holiday Monday night at McCarthy’s Bar.

 

The Aubane social Club will hold their annual Table Quiz on Good Friday night, starting at 8.30.

 

There is no end to the goodness of people, and I have a list of people here  people to speak for. Cullen & District Friends want to thank all those who supported this years sponsored Weigh-In.

Thanks from  Cope Foundation who raised €1,853,00 at the recent church Gate collection. From Fr. Liam Dunne of the Divine Word Missionaries who collected €1,904.00 here recently.

And thanks from the Blood Donor Clinic who 119 donors at their  recent visit to Millstreet. Well done all round.

 

The new Millstreet Magazine “Duhallow Today” is due out early in April.

 

It’s seems to be burning time on our mountains  at the moment, and the lovely smell of burning bracken fills our evening air at the moment.
