Already the first week of August has passed us by and I hope it left you well and happy. The weather over the weekend was rather challenging with heavy downpours playing havoc with many outdoor events. But the sun was quick to come out in most cases brightening spirits again. I was lucky enough to enjoy a family break in Bearra ,with lots of young and not so young to add variety to the trip. The heavy rains turned the giant waterfall at Hungry Hill into a raging torrent and at the same time turn lesser streams into busy cascades running down from the high rocky mountains. Well worth driving out to see. Sadly an outdoor fundraiser by the local GAA Club was a washout, as were many others. But rain or no rain, the crowds were immense,and with lots of modern day facilities our weather poses no great problem. The organisers of the Platform at Mushera planned well in advance and held their popular dance at the indoors at nearby Ballinagree, on Sunday, where a great time was had by all. There are many more events planned for the next few weeks before the end of the school holidays.
We have two major Equestrian Events coming up this month. Bringing the Green Glens to the half-way point in their annual calendar of the annual fixtures. The mighty International Horse Trials (CS12) will run from August 14th to August 18th inclusive. Followed a few days later by the International Eventing Horse Show from August 21st to August 25th inclusive.
Again these events will bring the cream of Ireland and many countries throughout Europe into Millstreet . Let everybody extend a real Millstreet Welcome to them. Business people and indeed every body in the area are asked to pull out all the stops to make the best possible impression on these elite visitors .

Our Tidy Towns Committee have excelled themselves this year with their painting and planting and doing all they can to Make Millstreet a better place. Please help them in every way you can. You can do so by telling them that you are available to do what ever is needed. Also by keeping your own place bright and presentable. Flags, or welcome notices etc, of the visiting countries would be great. It worked well with the Mounted Games teams and should do so again. So please show you care.
A Blood Donor Clinic will be held at our GAA/Community Hall this evening from 5 to 8.30. Please support it well.
Our Pitch n Putt Club want to thank all those who supported their recent Church Gate Collection.
Likewise the Millstreet Vintage Club want to thank all those who supported their recent Mega Truck Run. Which was held in aid of Charity. A special word of thanks to those who attended the 11.30 Mass on the Day for their co-operation with regard to the parking at Clara Rd.
Aubane Community Centre will hold their Annual Fun Day on Sunday next August 11th. Starting 2pm. All are welcome.
Coffee Morning at the same venue on Saturday 17th in aid of Marymount Hospice, from 10.30 to 1.30.
A tractor Run, based at the Aubane Community Centre Sunday August 18th in memory of the late Johnnie Hickey, founder of the Millstreet Club will start with registration at 11 am, for a 12.30 start. Going to Ballinagree Vintage Show . For details contact Bernard Crowley, 0877924406.
