Motivated by the enormous interest in Poet Francis Duggan’s superb poem “John Sing Used to Say” we delved into our Millstreet Museum Pictorial Archives to discover these three images of the late John “Sing”recorded in Millstreet…and John features in many more images also. Fond memories of John Sing, especially from our Pipe Band days and also hours watching him tailoring at Mr O’s. Lots of laughs always
Sing was a great friend and I usually spent more time in Manleys than I spent in our own house when I went back for vacation.
He was really one of a kind and I never knew anyone who didn’t like him.
John Sing was a regular visitor to our house in minor row but it was extra special and entertaining on Sunday mornings when we were all sitting at the kitchen table having breakfast. Sing would pick up two knives and start tapping at the butter dish, glass milk bottle, cups, plates etc. It was magic, he made music from any thing, I have tried to imitate his magic and absolutely nothing happens but clink, clink, clunk. He was so talented, we were so privileged to call him a friend.
