Impressed with the Country Park

2015-03-21 Country Park 01 - by Jane ThomasFrom Jane: I am so impressed with Millstreet Country Park.. Today is my first day back since it was reopened ..  walking in our beautiful sunshine..  Spectacular.. Quiet something so very special, spiritual even.

Whilst walking I was greeted by the beautiful statues of famous Irish people.  This is an addition to park.. Water streams gently flowing, the sounds heavenly.

Then whilst walking towards the visitors centre the sound of music was gently playing in the music garden.

I was told to relax in the stunning area where I was to have my Americano and scone, it was like being on holiday.

We are so lucky to have this beauty here.. here are a few pictures which do not give justice

(Click on the photos to see them properly)

John Twomey Of Laharn

2014 - John Twomey of LaharnI have heard through the grapevine that he is doing okay
John Twomey of Laharn for the Aubane Gaelic Football Club he used to play
When he was a younger man in his life’s prime
Before the Aubane Club fell victim to the passing of time

John Twomey the fellow who does laugh at life
I hear he has school going children and a wife
To support on his farm in the shadows of Mushera above Millstreet Town
Where the undulating road to Kilcorney does wind up and down [read more …] “John Twomey Of Laharn”

John Kelleher’s Leprechaun

from the Paranormal Database:

John Kelleher captured a leprechaun under a rock near the summit of Mushera  mountain, and agreed only to let the creature go if it gave him a purse of coins. The little man told Kelleher that if he dug where he stood, he would find the purse. Kelleher let the leprechaun go, stuck a stick in the ground to mark the position and went home to find a shovel. Returning a short time later, the man found hundreds of identical sticks all stuck in the earth around the area. (the date of this is unkown)

The Man Who Bought Bill Pad’s Mountain by Francis Duggan

The man who bought Bill Pad’s Mountain has physically known a better day
But that his life achievements will outlive him of him only fair to say
From a mostly bracken clad wilderness he created Millstreet Country Park
One can say of Jerry Sheehan in life he has made his mark [read more …] “Where it all began”

Town Park Grant for Outdoor Gym

Millstreet Town Park received €7,500 from the Cork County Council Community Fund, towards their new outdoor fitness equipment. The note below is from Cllr John Paul O’Shea:

Over €75,000 was allocated to communities across the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District Area this week as part of Cork County Council’s Community Fund. The fund was established to support community and voluntary groups who wish to undertake capital development projects in their respective villages and towns.

Welcoming the allocations, Chairman of the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District, Cllr. John Paul O’ Shea (Ind) said “The commitment of Cork County Council to allocate monies to these deserving projects is indeed a very welcome announcement for community groups within the Kanturk and Mallow areas. This funding will undoubtedly benefit the many community and voluntary organisations who have worked extremely hard in recent months planning for such developments in their respective communities and I look forward to seeing the fruits of their labour becoming a reality during the coming months”. Mushera’s Paddy Keeffe

I only knew Mushera’s Paddy Keeffe as a very old man
He was then in the twilight of his long life span
The physical wear of time on him did show
With a cane’s assistance he was walking slow

Ireland’s best two mile hurdler when in his life’s prime
Though this is going back many decades in time
Few in Ireland could match it with him on his day
The best of Mushera Valley of him one can say [read more …] “Mushera’s Paddy Keeffe”
