Marie & Con’s Wedding

Poultry Day at The Secret Garden Centre 12th June

Our third Poultry Day this year and it is a great opportunity to buy your hens, ducks etc as well as gain advice on all things poultry. This is a great event as there is no fee to attend and you can have a cuppa and a slice of cake in the tea room.

Spectacular 14th Innishannon Steam & Vintage Rally 2011

A panoramic view from a teleporter at the annual Innishannon Steam & Vintage Rally on Sunday, 5th June 2011. I travelled to the magnificent event with Millstreet Pipe Band and am presently preparing a full feature on the fascinating event which continues on today, Monday 6th June. The prestigious event is held in aid of Irish Cancer Society. (S.R.)

Anne Casey Joy Memorial Classic Car Run

On Sunday 29th May, 112 cars left Darby O’Gills Hotel in Killarney and set off on a 90 mile tour of the mountains of Kerry. The aim was to raise money for the Oncology Unit in Tralee General Hospital. The run coincided with the first anniversary of Anne Casey Joy who passed away on 24th May 2010.

Organised by Anne’s brother Declan, along with her husband Billy, and a number of good friends, the route took the cars over the famous Molls gap, Ballaghbeama Pass, Ballaghasheen pass and continued to a rest halt at Rossbeigh Beach. Margaret & John’s Wedding

Margaret O’Sullivan and John Casey got married last Saturday in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Ballydaly. Photographer Ronan Pallister has put some lovely photos of the day on his blog, as did Fr James McSweeney who did the ceremony.

Peg Healy’s Wonderful 80th Birthday

Peg Healy celebrated her 80th Birthday at her home in Murphy’s Terrace, Millstreet in the presence of her eleven children (pictured here), thirty grandchildren, sisters, brothers, family, neighbours and friends on Saturday, 7th May 2011.  We all wish the very popular, cheerful and wonderfully friendly Peg a very Happy Birthday.   Lots more pictures to follow later.

Television Reminders

“Crystal Swing” are scheduled to appear on tonight’s “Late Late Show” on RTÉ1 television while on tomorrow (Saturday) night at 9.00 on Sky Channel 4More there is another opportunity to view the excellent Australian documentary entitled “The Secret History of the Eurovision” which contains significant footage of Millstreet re the 1993 Eurovision.

Irish Vintage Scene magazine

The Vintage Day in the Green Glens held last Easter Sunday will be featured in The Irish Vintage Scene magazine this month. In a preview of the article on their website they say:

In only its second year, the Millstreet Vintage Show succeeded in building on the popularity of its inaugural running last year…….. making this a great Easter day out; for more from this event, watch out for the June issue of Irish Vintage Scene, which will be in the shops from the 20th of May.

John P Kelleher – Shave or Dye

On Friday 29th April in Carriganima at the Night of Madness, John P Kelleher shaved his head and beard for the Irish Cancer Society, To date he has raised €2300. Mass from “The City” at Shrone on LTV this Sunday Evening

Weather permitting,  Dan Joe Kelleher and I will record the 2.00 p.m. Mass scheduled to be celebrated at “The City” in Shrone on this Sunday, 1st May 2011.   It will then be transmitted on LTV at 5.30 p.m. on Sunday…the very same evening thanks to Dan Joe’s dedication to Local Television.   The transmission will then be followed by a repeat of this week’s LTV1 and LTV2 programmes bringing us to the very end of this season’s LTV broadcasts.    We thank you for being such loyal Viewers and wish you all a very Happy Summer and look forward to a new LTV season in the Autumn.   (S.R.)

Eurovision Documentary to be Screened on Monday, 2nd May on RTÉ1 at 10.30 p.m.

Entitled “The Secret History of the Eurovision” this major documentary, part of which was filmed here in Millstreet in September 2010 when Niamh Kavanagh and the Duggan Family participated in comprehensive interviews, will be broadcast on RTÉ1 television on this Monday  from 10.30 p.m until 12.15 a.m..

Kate and William to wed in Kilcorney

While Kate Middleton was getting pampered in preparation for her wedding yesterday, bride-to-be Kate Buckley from Kilcorney in Cork was spending the eve of her big day making sure her dairy cows were milked, fed and happy before taking care of herself.
“I was supposed to get my nails done on Tuesday but it didn’t happen,” explained bride-to-be Kate.
Kate said they got engaged last year around August, and the royal couple announced their engagement a short time after.
Meanwhile, Kate’s fiance and fellow dairy farmer William Casey, from Berrings, was also spending the day farming with his father in Inniscarra.
