She’ll be on hand to answer any questions on choosing, feeding and general care of hens. She’ll have a range of organic and GM free feeds, as well as other pet accessories, to buy on the day. On Sept. 30th 1897 St. Therese of Lisieux died at the age of 24. She had become known worldwide as “The Little Flower”. Rathmore Fair & Family Day took place on Sunday, 26th Sept. 2010. It was a very colourful, busy and cheerful occasion with lots of music, buying and selling, a fancy dress parade and much more. National Heritage Week runs from Saturday 21st August to Sunday 29th August 2010 inclusive.
Millstreet Country Park has a lot to offer for National Heritage Week with a full programme of events taking place daily. Tours, lectures, guided walks and exhibitions will focus on the estates history, its outdoor life, heritage and culture.

Millstreet Tourism committee are holding a fund-raising night in the Wallis Arms on this Friday night the 6th August at 9pm. It consists of music provided by The Celts and DJ Nev., barbecue on the night by O’Leary Family butchers. There is €100 prize money for the best summer outfit on the night kindly sponsored by O Flynn Medical. Admission is only €10. All money raised on the night will go towards the cost of running the Millstreet Failte Festival which will be held in 2011.

Drishane Drama Camp Concert was held on Friday, 30th July 2010. For the past two weeks a wonderful combination of international and local young people took part in the splendidly creative project. The Concert presented a most enjoyable mixture of song, dance and drama. There will be a full report with lots of pictures in next week’s “Corkman”. Great credit is due to all who helped to co-ordinate the magnificent presentation. Here we share the first of a number of images from this uplifting event at Drishane, Milllstreet. (Seán)

12th Old Time Threshing and Vintage Afternoon Sunday July 25th. 2010
For any outdoor event the weather makes all the difference, and this year the sun blazed down in Cullen for the hosting of the 12th Old Time Threshing and Vintage Afternoon, we were blessed with brilliant summer sunshine that lifted the spirits of all who attended “the Threshing” as well as honouring our own patron Saint – Laitiarain. Incidentally it was also Macra’s “Know your neighbour Weekend”.

I’m delighted to be able to tell you that Millstreet Horse Show is back and better than ever! Millstreet Horse Show is running from the 10th-15th of August. Described as the ‘shop window for Irish Sport Horses,’ the show is the largest of its kind in Europe with over 1500 stables and 10,000 entries.
Sorely missed from the equestrian calendar last year due to an insurance dispute it is now back and the Duggan family and people of Millstreet look forward to once again opening their doors to the equestrian enthusiasts. [read more …] “Millstreet Horse Show is coming soon”
Here we share a selection of pictures from the very successful Book Launch of Gerard O’Meara’s “Magic Moments” which took place at the Hibernian Hotel, Mallow on 14th July 2010. The book was officially launched by Paddy Carleton in the presence of a capacity and very appreciative audience.
On Wednesday, 14th July 2010 (Bastille Day), supreme photographer Gerard O’Meara’s fascinating book of enormously interesting photographs of the 1960s, ’70s and 80s relating mainly to the Mallow area, will be launched after 8.00 p.m. at the Hibernian Hotel, Mallow. In a splendid foreword to Gerard’s book, the renowned Declan Hassett writes: “There is an innate sense of decency about Gerard O’Meara. He brings to life, and to his chosen profession, photography, that natural awareness of the importance of those with whom he comes in contact in his work as a “recorder of local history” through the camera lens.” The superb book is available in Mallow at Philip’s Bookshop, Katie’s and Monument House. We wish Gerard every success with this highly significant publication – guaranteed to be in huge demand and a best seller.

Air Take Photography have sent us more photos from Drishane Garden Fête which was in aid of the Baby Jacob Appeal. Included in the photos are the vintage parade, the photographic exhibition in the Chapel (where Air Take Photography had their own exhibition, as well as Millstreet Museum), and other unique panoramic photos of the fête.
