Lourdes Pilgrimage Table Quiz Friday 1st March 2024 at 8pm

The Table Quiz will take place on Friday 1st March 2024 at 8pm in The Wallis Arms.

This Quiz has become an annual fundraiser to help 5th Year Students from Millstreet Community School who are going on pilgrimage to Lourdes with the Irish Pilgrimage Trust, to pay for their travel and accommodation. Aoife Casey & Holly Saunders (pictured below) are the 5th years going this year and they will be Student Helpers with Goup 126.

Thanks to the wonderful support of the community for the bake sales in the Parish Centre before Christmas, the girls’ travel and accommodation costs have been covered (€750/per person).  However Group 126, along with all other groups taking part in the pilgrimage, are expected to raise €14,000 each year to cover the travel/accommodation costs of all the young people with special needs (known as ‘guests’) who are travellingwith their particular group.  All funds raised from the table quiz will go to the fundraising efforts of Group 126.
Tables: €40/team of four.  There will be a raffle.  Everyone is welcome to take part in what has become a great community event in support of the students.

We thank MCS Chaplain, John Magee for this important Notice.  (S.R.)

“Say Cheese!” – Upcoming Drama at Millstreet Community School

Millstreet Community School Presents “Say Cheese!”
The TY School Play, a cornerstone of the TY/5th Year experience in MCS for three decades, returns next week, so make sure you don’t miss a fantastic night out. The Show runs from Tuesday to Thursday, 27th, 28th and 29th Feb., starting at 7:30 pm.

The play is a dark comedy in which characters are poised on the knife-edge between hilarious absurdity and hysterical breakdown. It’s described as a “well-wrought, cleverly shaped drama with a keen sense of absurdity”.

The cast, set design and director teams have been working hard and all is coming together nicely, and we’re looking forward to a great Show to continue the fine tradition established in MCS.

(Many thanks to Chris Horan for this very interesting feature….S.R.)

Remembering the late Patrick O’Keeffe, Garryvoe

It has been such a very great privilege knowing the late Pat O’Keeffe since 1968 when we all began our training as National Teachers in St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra, Dublin.   We both began our teaching careers in Hollypark N.S., Newgrange Road, Blackrock, Dublin.   Recipient of the highly prestigious Vere Foster Medal in 1970 Pat was such a superbly inspirational Teacher, a True Gentleman, Friend Supreme to many, superbly caring and immensely supportive.   Our treasured friendship with Pat, his wonderful wife, Breda and his outstanding daughter, Grace as well as with the extended O’Keeffe and Walsh Family members has blossomed throughout the years.  In memory of the late highly regarded and respected Pat we shall pay a very special Tribute to our esteemed Colleague and Greatest of Friends – Pat O’Keeffe of Garryvoe in beautiful East Cork – on our “Radio Treasures” programme on www.corkmusicstation.com at 9.30pm on this coming Tuesday, 6th February 2024.   May Pat’s gentle Soul rest in peace.  Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal dílis.
