Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind Fundraising This Friday
On this Friday, 24th May 2024, Eileen Tarrant and her dedicated Team will be fundraising from 9am to 4pm outside Coleman’s Centra Supermarket, Minor Row, Millstreet in aid of the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind. Eileen will be having many relevant items for sale and will be joined by two canine friends. She especially welcomes anyone who would like to join her at any time during the 9 to 4 fundraising period for this wonderfully praiseworthy occasion.
This was the occasion in August 2023 when the official cheque was presented following the uplifting fundraising efforts of the dedicated local group:
“With the Annual Open Day taking place today, Saturday, 26th August 2023 at the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind national headquarters on Model Farm Road, Cork T12 WT4A to which all are very welcome, a very special gathering of people from the Millstreet Parish area travelled there yesterday to present the very impressive cheque of €2,018.00 to the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind – the fruits of the fundraising some months ago which involved the production and selling of the excellent Music CD “A
Millstreet Collection Volume Two” – comprising of thirty various Artists most of whom had direct Millstreet links. This CD fundraising project was the inspiring work of Paddy Murphy, Tullig. The second important fundraising event, wonderfully coordinated by Eileen Tarrant and her superbly dedicated Team involved a full day’s fundraising Collection outside Coleman’s Centra, Minor Row, Millstreet where a royal welcome was accorded by Mary and John Coleman during which the generous response from the public was quite remarkable. The General Public are very Welcome to come along to see the Vintage Tractors at the Millstreet Vintage Club Vintage Tractor Run happening in Millstreet Tomorrow Sunday May12th
The General Public are very Welcome to view the Vintage Tractors before the Run today Sunday which is being ran by Millstreet Vintage Club and organised by Dan Barry .
The Tractors can be viewed at the Canon O’Donovan Centre from 11am right up to when they hit the road at 1pm,the beneficiary from this Event is Millstreet Community Hospital, and the Run will be exclusively open to VINTAGE TRACTORS only and the Criteria required for to take part will be that your Tractor will have to be 1994 or Older to participate,this is the first time the Club will be running a Tractor Run for Vintage Tractors only and is an interesting concept and hopefully one that catches on for future Events.
Entry Fee is €20.

First Holy Communion Ceremony for Courtney & Saoirse
A very impressive First Holy Communion ceremony took place in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Ballydaly on Saturday, 27th April 2024. The two children receiving the Sacrament were Courtney Twomey and Saoirse Murphy – both pupils of Cloghoula N.S.. The Celebrant was Canon John Fitzgerald, P.P., Millstreet. As we start into the Month of May the next 2 months will be a busy period for Millstreet Vintage Club with the next Event for the Club being a Classic Vehicle & Coffee event over at Mallow GAA Complex Eircode (P51 XV58) happening on Bank Holiday Monday May 6th between 11am and 3pm,this Event is in aid of Mallow Day Care Centre and is sponsored by Mallow Credit Union,for more details on this Event you can give

Listener’s Choice Presentation Tonight in CODMDC at 8.15
Millstreet Gramophone Circle Presentation will take place tonight – Friday, 19th April 2024 at 8.15pm in the Canon O’Donovan Day Centre, Clara Road, Millstreet. Everyone is very welcome. This is the second last Presentation of the current season and it is a Listener’s Choice programme where we share the musical choices of many of those attending. (S.R.)
“Radio Treasures” Next Week Features Collins Barracks
On this Tuesday – 16th April 2024 … preceded by “Jimmy Reidy & Friends” with a wonderful programme (no. 91) from the splendid Archival Series where the focus is on Glanworth, Co. Cork at 8pm (the repeat of which one may hear on Sunday night at 10pm).

…..but next week we shall be broadcasting a very special feature on the recent Blessing of 4 Infantry Battalion Association Colours and Deceased Members Mass held at Collins Barracks, Cork.
Millstreet Community School – “A Celebration of Culture and Inclusion”
The Celebration of Culture and Inclusion is a chance to recognise and celebrate the different countries and cultures that are represented in our school and community. The evening will feature song, dance, music, poetry and the chance to sample food from many different countries, including Ireland. We will be welcoming a special guest for the event, Dr Manizha Khan. Dr Khan and her family are originally from Afghanistan. She is a dentist by profession. In fact, she was the dean of a dental school in the city of Herat in Afghanistan but she and her family fled to Ireland because their lives were under threat from the regime in the country. Apart from being a dentist in Cork she is also a School of Sanctuary Ambassador and we are delighted she will be able to join us.
Admission is free. Please feel free to join us for what is sure to be a memorable night.

Millstreet Vintage Club Vintage Car Run in Aid of Kerry Cancer Support Group Health Link Transport Service, is happening on this coming Sunday April 14th, the Event will be based out of its starting point at The Wallis Arms in Millstreet and will take a Scenic Route along the Cork Kerry Border and move onto the finish at The Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney.
Kerry Cancer Support Group charity was founded in 2007 and the Groups Mission is no one should face their cancer journey alone, Kerry Cancer Support Group is devoted to maintaining a warm, welcoming environment while ensuring that service users have immediate access to our free programmes and resources. Our professional staff strive to help people affected by cancer in a way that is as supportive and helpful as possible to achieve the highest quality of life.Kerry Cancer Support Group is a community-based, volunteer-driven, community-supported organisation.
The Car Run for the Group being organised by Millstreet Vintage Club on Sunday April 14th is open to All Vintage/Classic Cars, Bikes,Vans, etc,Sign on is at the Wallis Arms Hotel from 10.30am and the Run departs at 12.15pm.
There will be Music in the Square Millstreet Sunday Morning by Neilie OConnor & Dermot Moriarty
(Weather permitting) otherwise it will be indoors in the Wallis Arms.
