Millstreet Day Centre is looking for ARTISTS/PAINTERS
Millstreet Day Centre is looking for ARTISTS/PAINTERS to come volunteer at the Day Centre. We have great interest from our clients & residents to try their hand at painting & we are looking for someone to lead the cause! Many people think that art practices like painting and drawing are just hobbies but research shows that art therapy can be a valuable approach for improving an older person’s physical and mental health. Starting a hobby such as painting has many benefits such as improved cognitive function & mood, enhanced motor skills, increased social interaction & improved memory.
If you have an hour to spare Mon to Thurs at 11.00am or 2.00pm – any type of art or painting would be hugely welcomed!! If you have the time or know someone that does please get in touch with the Centre on (029) 70926 or <email>
Shelagh-Jessica Gilbourne Art Exhibition “True Beauty”
Shelagh-Jessica Gilbourne Art Exhibition
“True Beauty”
My name is Shelagh-Jessica Gilbourne and I hail from Millstreet, Co. Cork. I
am a young aspiring artist who has received many accolades for my art
over the years.
I began drawing and painting from the moment I could hold a pencil in my
hand.
I have a deep interest in art which is influenced by nature, people and the
world around me. I am hopeful that through my paintings, I am able to
express and share my feelings about nature’s beauty which is all around us.
“Painting brings me peace and offers me a place to meditate on the beauty
in the world and the grace I feel while living it. My highest goal is to convey
the same peace and belonging to my collectors offering a moment or pause
and a feeling of deep belonging.”
Different mediums allow me to express different ideas. I used acrylic and oil
paints.
My vision is to become a well known and acclaimed artist one day.
If you would like to see my paintings, I am currently exhibiting in Macroom
library for the month of April.
This is one of hopefully many other exhibitions where I will continue to
display my art.

What we Love – Art Exhibition
Herlihy’s Centra in the West End, and the Millstreet Primary Schools Parents Assn would like to thank the children from the Primary Schools for their Art work. There is plenty of room for more Art, so its not too late to hand it in and it is definitely worth a visit as the pictures below don’t do the art justice.
Also the Parents Assn would like to remind everyone that the Go Fund Me page is still going and thank everyone who has given money so far.
Herlihy Centra – Art Exhibition
Millstreet Primary Schools’ Parents’ Association have been asked by Herlihy Centra Millstreet, to invite the children from the Presentation N.S. and Scoil Mhuire B.N.S. to send in their Art in the form of a A4 painting/colouring picture in the theme of ‘What we love’ with the view of displaying it in the shop and in the windows.
Herlihy’s Centra have been very impressed with the art work that has been displayed in town over the years and would love to exhibit the Primary Schools art, the exhibition ‘What we love’ will open very soon, so please start getting the pictures into Herlihy Centra in the West End ASAP.
For more information go to the Millstreet Primary Schools Parents Assn Facebook page.
Virtual St Patrick’s Day Parade from 12 Noon
Millstreet Parents Association would like to wish everyone a Happy St Patrick’s Day.
Passcode: 113069
What does St Patrick’s Day mean to you?
What does St Patrick’s Day mean to you? Millstreet Parents Assn has asked the Primary School children that very question.
To some of us it can mean going to St Patrick’s Church for mass, meeting friends and listening to the wonderful music. It maybe visiting family and going to the St Patrick’s Day Parade.
This year, sadly, we wont be able to do any Parades or go to Mass together, so instead of a Parade etc this year The Millstreet Parents Assn has invited the children from the Presentation N.S. and Scoil Mhuire B.N.S. to send in maybe a Photograph or Video of up to 20 seconds of who they want to wish Happy St Patrick’s day to (maybe someone out of the area or abroad they haven’t seen in a long time, or a relation they miss), perhaps play some music, or even have their own mini parade, even if they want to do a picture or Art, a poem, but the idea is for the children to say what St Patrick’s Day means to them.
The Parents Assn need all Photo’s/video’s and art pieces sent in by Friday 12th March 7pm and they will put them together for viewing in our own Primary Schools St Patrick’s virtual Parade on the 17th March. By sending it in, it is accepted consent has been given to show the clips/art on the Facebook page of The Millstreet Parents Assn and other social media platforms, this way any wishes you want sending to people will be able to seen.
But this will only work if the children take part, so let prove that St Patrick’s Day is still special to everyone.

Millstreet Parents Association Pancake Competition
Millstreet Parents Association would like to thank all the talented children who sent in entries from both the Presentation N.S. and Scoil Mhuire B.N.S. The children sent in a lot of fantastic pictures of how they like to have their Pancakes, lots of wonderful designs and colours, I am told it made the decision of who the winner was such a hard job. Here are the pictures, some great talent here I think you’ll agree.

Millstreet Parent Assn Competition Winners
Millstreet Parents Association sadly couldn’t put on the annual ‘Halloween Disco’ this year, so recently over half term they held a Netflix party where children from the Presentation N.S. & Scoil Mhuire Boy’s N.S. watched a film together from the safety of their own homes, also they held a couple of competition’s, firstly a colouring competition and then a fancy dress competition. Below are some of the winners. Thank you to everyone who entered, it was really hard picking the winners and we wish we could have shared all the entries as they were wonderful and scary. Also thank you to both schools and everyone who helped.

Delia adds her Pottery Studio to Castleisland’s Main Street at No. 94
It’s unlikely that Castleisland has ever had a serious potter of its own.
One who made pots and plates and jugs and mugs for the people of the locality.
The nearest we’ve ever had were ‘earthenware merchants’ Thomas Kearney and John Riordan both on Main Street in the late 1880s.
They may well have been potters themselves but they were, most likely, merchants for the merchandise of others.
What’s in a name ? Potters are often referred to nowadays as ceramicists and a practitioner of that class of craft and talent launched her own studio / shop at No. 94 Main Street, Castleisland on Monday morning, August 10th 2020 at 10am.
After her first week of trading in the new shop, Delia is delighted with the warmth of the welcome she got from fellow and neighbouring business people in the town.
She’s also taken aback with the level of business she’s been doing in terms of straight sales from stock and from orders received during the week.
