Setting up a Craft Group

Hello all, I’m currently thinking about setting up a craft group that would meet weekly in Millstreet to exchange ideas and techniques and just generally meet like minded people for a couple of hours, a cuppa and do a bit of crafting. I would love to hear from sewers, Quilters, patchworkers, knitter, crossstichers, card makers, jewelry makers and any other crafters who would like to get together. Please respond with any thoughts or ideas. Thanks, Clare.

Arriving Into View

Arriving Into View is an art project that invited teenagers living in direct provision centres in Cork City and County to work with the Glucksman and practicing artists over a six week period in Autumn 2017.

Throughout the sessions participants engaged in projects that investigated ideas of personal journey. Teenagers explored the processes and techniques involved in communicating stories and messages to large audiences while working with different mediums and artists.

The project invited 15 teenagers (ages 13-17 years) from direct provision centres in Kinsale Road, Glounthaune, Clonakilty and Drishane Castle to work with practicing artists. This was an opportunity for these teenagers to interact with artistic ideas and mediums and to discover their own creative and imaginative capabilities away from their prohibitive surroundings.

The culmination of the project was last Friday’s tonight’s public display of a large scale mural created by the group in Fitzgerald’s Park as park of Culture Night. It will remain on display until October 8th. [read more …] “Arriving Into View”

Creative Picture Merging by John O’Riordan

The Square, Millstreet creatively merged by John O’Riordan, Church Street, Millstreet.    As an expert in computer technology John has so very wonderfully blended a 1910 William Lawrence Print of The Square and Main Street with a 2012 view of the same scene.   What a clever result!  He has also created a similar effect below with the 1910 and 2012 views of the Square, Millstreet.   A million thanks, John, for sharing such interesting and superbly creative images.   (S.R.)

Artist Blacksmith Supreme J.J. Bohan Works on LTV2 Sign Superbly Designed by John Cashman at Millstreet Country Park

J.J. Bohan, Artist Blacksmith supreme working on the LTV2 sign in Millstreet Country Park this morning (27th Oct.) having been designed by John Cashman.   Seán Murphy and I recorded the work in progress.   The completed iron sign which will take many, many hours to make will become a permanent fixture in our LTV2 Studio.   If we added the Millstreet name to the sign it would indeed take much longer to complete.   We are truly grateful to both J.J. who comes from near Schull in West Cork and to John for so generously fulfilling a promise made during the superb Blacksmith Festival at MCP on the May Bank Holiday 2012.   (S.R.)
