Pipe Band 60th Celebrations

Millstreet Pipe Band will be having a 60th Anniversary Celebration at the Dromhall Hotel, Killarney, Co. Kerry on March 26th 2011, with music on the night by the Kelt.

This is an opportunity for the Millstreet Community & for past members to join in with the celebrations of the band.

This Patrick’s Day marks 60 years playing in the Millstreet St.Patricks Day Parade, and that 60 years is a huge achievement because it is 60 years of unbroken service, the kind of which is rarely seen these days.

There are two members of the first Se.Patricks Day Parade still playing in the band for the 60th Parade this year. Is this a record, for 60 years of unbroken service?

A Lot of Men

A lot of men in my young years in Millstreet did like their sports and did enjoy their grog
And they shlauned peat to warm their family homes in Winter in early Summer in Gneeves mountain bog
Around their fire grates on nights in the depths of Winter current affairs were discussed and other things they did recall
Such as politics and sporting greats and of great teams and games of hurling and gaelic football
They told stories of the War of Independence in Sliabh Luachra and Duhallow such as the ambush at Tureengarriffe Glen
Of a battle celebrated and often written about of the bravery of Sean Moylan and his men [read more …] “A Lot of Men”

In Search of Musical Instruments

Is there a dusty old musical instrument hiding in your attic?

If so, (and because new instruments can be expensive for beginners,) Millstreet Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann would appreciate donations, but are willing to purchase, lend or do whatever it takes, in order to help children make a start into the world of music. Instruments in any condition would be considered, and your help would be greatly appreciated.

Contact James on 087-2596564 if you think you have such an instrument.
