Seán Radley’s Night
We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean, but the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. We can do no great things, only small things with great love.’ ~Mother Teresa
It was my privilege to be part of a community celebration on Saturday night in Green Glens, Millstreet. The celebration marked many years of contribution by Sean Radley to his local community and beyond. He is a man who has done endless small things with great love and will continue to do so for many more years. Sean’s contribution to his local community is beyond measure. No money could buy his contribution to education, local television, local radio and his unique ability to make every person feel special. We so often take many people for granted in our lives but on Saturday night over 600 people gathered to say thanks and well done. Such was the enthusiasm [read more …] “Seán Radley’s Night”

Corkman of the Year
Paddy O’Brien, whose mother was Nellie Long from Aubane, who has crusaded tirelessly for the elderly for over six decades, who headed up the southern division of the Irish Heart Foundation for years, and who is also the driving force behind the hugely popular Over 60s competition, one of the largest talent shows for the elderly, has been named the Cork Person of the Year for 2010. He said he was stunned and humbled by the honour.
“Loneliness is still a huge problem among the elderly and that is one reason why I continue to run the Over 60s Show in communities all over the city and county, for the past 34 years,” he said.
He told guests that he became a voluntary social worker in 1953, when as a 14-year-old, he took a summer job as a “messenger boy”, and came across extreme poverty in inner city areas.
He began running errands for elderly people and later [read more …] “Corkman of the Year”
