Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this beautiful rich, warm, Tuesday morning, after a night of soft rain.

There is never a dull moment. We had no less than two major celebrations here in Millstreet this week past week. It started on Wednesday morning at the presentation Convent School when teachers and pupils were among the large crowd to spring a surprise event on Sean Radley, to mark his retirement after over 30 years of dedication as a remedial teacher. The unsuspecting Sean was asked to unveil a plaque on the schoolyard wall. Little did he think that it was dedicated to his good self. It read as follows. This Garden  is dedicated to Sean Radley our esteemed Colleague and Friend who planted seeds of Friendship, Love, and Learning in this school. Mile Buiochas. June 2010.

And what a fitting tribute to a man who has given so much.  Further speeches and presentations made and the day grew into a Fun-day for all, In brilliant sunshine. Bounching Castles, face-painting, games and a barbeque.

Sean wasn’t allowed to touch a camera. Geraldine Dennehy filled in for him on this special occasion.

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this glorious Tuesday morning.

A very successful meeting was held at St Joseph’s Gardens on Thursday last. Organised by the social services, it was  attended by representatives of Respond , members of many of our local  voluntary organisations, as well as residents This first meeting of the group was chaired by Steve Kelly Community worker with the HSE. Many interesting topics were discussed but its main function was to promote more liaison between the residents and the Millstreet community at large. 19 of the 32 apartments are now occupied.

Next meeting will be held on September 2nd.

Annual Mass at St. John’s Well this Thursday June 24^th at 8pm.

And on Sunday 27^th they have a climb of Mushera mountain taking off at 2pm

Mass will be celebrated this Friday evening June 25th at 7pm in our Parish Church to mark  the Golden Jubilee of Fr. Paddy O Byrne.

There is an important notice here from our Garda Siocana to let you know that tomorrow Wednesday June 16^th is National Firearms Licencing Awareness Day.

All gun holders are asked to renew their licences on that day. Garda Stations will be open from 10am to 6pm.

Millstreet Development Group have criss-crossed out town with banners telling all and sundry that from  to-day, June 14^th to the 19^th, every shop and business is giving big discounts, 39 in all, turning Millstreet into a real bargain–town for the next few days. Do come and sample these once-off bargains  and while you are here,  go to see our beauty spots,  Tubrid Well,  the Country Park,  The Green Glens Complex, the picturesque view from our Wind-farms, and lots more.  And have a meal or snack in any one of our varied food outlets.

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this soft, Tuesday morning following some night rain.

Holiday makers were fortunate to get two fine days out of three at the Bank Holiday weekend. Everybody headed for the out of doors, our lovely Country Park enjoying a bumper crowd. There was a marked increase in the number of our people choosing to holiday at home, resulting in huge crowds at all the touristy places. Let us hope the trend continues throughout the rest of the year

Please let me remind you of the Tidy Towns Clean-up, tonight starting  in town at 7.30  and they are appealing for your full co-operation.

Our Development committees meet at regularly, to make Millstreet a better place, The Tourism committee would welcome some more people with new ideas and new thinking to help them with their ambitious plans for the future. A new list of accommodation is being compiled and anybody who would like to get involved, please contact Veronica O Callaghan or any member.

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the best on this soft and sunny Tuesday morning June 1^st.

Our busy week of events went off fine here in Millstreet. The Golden Jubilee celebration in honour of Mons. Manning on Friday night was a wonderful occasion. It began with 8 o’clock Mass in our church, with over twenty priests attending. Many members of his family came the celebrate with him. The parish choir were well prepared and the pipe band greeted the large crowd as they left the church to go to the GAA Hall where many presentations were made to our beloved pastor on the occasion of his golden Jubilee and retirement. Presentations were also made to his faithful staff Mary Ann Buckley who has worked at the Presbetry since 1988 and cared for Canon Browne, Canon O Donovan, as well as Mons.Manning. Margaret Kelleher was specially honoured for her great work a sacristan, following in the steps of her late grandmother and her mother, who herself was honoured by the pope himself for her dedication to Ballydaly church. Some lovely refreshments were then served and music was laid on by our Comaltas Group. Well done to all who arranged this great event.

The Duggan Family are pulling out all the stops to make their re-enactment of the renowned Drishane Garden Fete a day to remember on Sunday while at the same time raising great money for the Baby Jacob fund. See posters for details.

Our beautiful Country Park will be open of course every day .

A very full week just gone past here in Millstreet and an even fuller one coming up. The annual Mass at Tubrid Well was blessed with brilliant sunshine on Friday evening last. The crowds were well up on former years. No less than four priests concelebrated , the parish choir attended and amplification was provided as always by the treasured John Anthony O Sullivan.

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this rather dull and calm Tuesday morning.

Brian Murphy who is a panel beater from Cloughoulabeg, Millstreet, will be taking part in the FBD Insurance 8-Day Cycle Race which starts in Dunboyne on Sunday 23rd May and finishes in Skerries Dublin on Sunday 30th May. The race is a gruelling event and 10 professional teams as well as club teams from all over Ireland are taking part. Brian is a member of Kanturk Town Cycling Club and the Club have a five man team consisting of Brian Murphy, Will Curtin, Brian Canty, Richard Hooten & Bryan Long taking part this year. This is the lads first time in this race and we wish them all the best of luck.

Our outdoor  pursuits on  Sunday were many and varied,with Ballydaly staging their annual Sports and Leisure Day, at their local School Grounds,  a music extravaganza at Star Trax recording Studio  in Knocknagree and a fun day for all  ages in our Town Park  organised by the local Clubs. People turned out with children, babies in prams, dogs on leads in brilliant sunshine to see dads and granddads,  moms and grandmothers tog off for a real fun game of football. Which was followed by matches for a variety of age groups. The pipe band opened the show. The Celts provided music al fresco, and Jerry Pat filled the air with the tempting aroma of roasting burgers and snacks. There was no fee at the gate, and a great time was had by all.

All roads lead to Knocknagree on this coming Sunday for an explosion of Music at the Star Trax recording Studio. Following the recent devastating fire at their place they need all you support. See posters for all the details. A fundraising event for the cause will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on June 11^th organised by LTV2.

On Sunday next May 16th Millstreet G.A.A.Club along with camogie club will hold their La Na g Club day in park from 2.30-4.30pm. This will be a fun day for all the family with all ages catered for. Events scheduled for the day are U8 football blitz,U16 mixed football game, rounders for coaches of junior, juvenile and camogie teams All the mums get ready for an obstacle race. Celebrity Banisteoir with two local personalities (Noel Buckley and Joan O Mahony from Convent School) battling against each other with their respective teams. Music on the day will be provided by The  Kelt, (joint chairmen of Juvenile Club) and we will also have a barbeque hosted by Jerry Pat and staff. Music and dancing on the day from local musicians and dancers. There will be many other novelty events eg.penalty shootout, face painting etc to keep all entertained. All we need is for the sunshine to shine   to ensure an enjoyable day on Sunday next in Millstreet town park. All are welcome. thanks Mairead Daly, Secretary  Juvenile. club.

I don’t have the full details of the lotto draw this morning ,but I can tell you that the Jackpot was not won, The Jackpot for next week in €4,400 and the draw will be at Tarrants Bar on Sunday night.

A very special greeting goes this week to the lovely Mrs. Cait O Shea, of Dirreen, Adrigole, who celebrated her 90th Birthday recently, Many Happy returns Cait.

The AGM of LTV2 will be held at the Wallis Arms to-night starting at 8.

This week I’d like to convey our heartiest congratulations to my dear brother, Bro. Vincent Corkery, of the De La Salle order who has been working in Malaysia for over sixty years and in appreciation of him great work, the Sultan of Perak (head of state in Perak, Malaysia) of that country conferred him with the highest honour in the land, namely the DATO title. It would be the equivalent of knighthood in this part of the world. He loves Ireland and comes home every year, but his Heart is in his beloved Malaysia. In accepting this great honour he said he was taking it on behalf of all missionaries, who worked in that land including all the Sisters of the Dishane Order .

Many congratulations to our own Sean Radley on receiving a very prestigious Award at UCC recently.

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this heavenly Tuesday morning with the sun shining all around.

And I want to wish Our lovely John Paul, at the radio station, a very happy Birthday.

Our Divine Mercy devotions were held in our Parish Church on Sunday afternoon and were very well attended, with many of the congregation taking part as well as the church choir.

A notice from the local branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann to say that their popular annual Feile Ceoil , comprising of competitions in singing dancing ,music , recitation ,and so on, will be held at our Community School on this Sunday Apr 18^th ,starting at 12.30 sharp.

The Cullen and District Special Needs Association want to tank all those who helped in any way to make this years event the great success that it was. And are appealing to cards holders to please return all cards and cash as soon as possible.

Further to that they want to mention the Cadbury CSR Pub Quiz which will be held at the Fairfield Bar in Knocknagree on Fri. Apr 23^rd , proceeds to the Special Needs fund.

It’s great to be back with you again following two wonderful weeks in far away Nebraska ,land of Indian tribes and descendents of  so many  Irish Immigrants.

Many congratulations to Fr. Paddy O Byrne who celebrated the Golden Jubilee  of his Ordination at Lincoln, Nebraska on March 29^th.where he had missioned for over forty years . It was indeed  an honour for me  to be present at this historic ceremony which saw the mighty Cathedral of that City packed to capacity. Up to a 140 priests in all attended, as did countless numbers of nuns, The Knights of Columbus and the hundreds of people to whom he has endeared himself over the years.  The popular Fr. Paddy will be further honoured by his own people here in Millstreet at a later date.
