Cloghoula Pattern Day 2012 – A Superb Success

Carriganima National School Open Night

Carriganima National School have been successful in their appeal to the Department of Education and Skills and have retained their second teacher. They will be holding an Open Night on Wednesday 16th May 2012 from 7 – 9pm. Everyone welcome to visit the school, meet the teachers and pupils and view a presentation on “A Day in the Life of Our Junior Infants”. The school is currently taking enrollments for September 2012. Green Flag Award for Derinagree NS

Derinagree NS have just received the fantastic news that they have been awarded their first Green Flag for the school. This is a tremendous acheivement! A delegation has been invited to collect their well deserved flag at an Awards Ceremony in Cork on May 22nd.

The Dancing Principal

A big congratulations to Presentation National School student Tia Kiely who has won a prize in the poetry category in the Listowel Writer’s Week Festival. Tia and her family will be attending a prize-giving ceremony at the end of the month and President Michael D. Higgins will be the special guest at this ceremony. Below is Tia with her poem:

The Dancing Principal

We have a dancing principal in our school
We all think she’s awesome and real cool
Once she said we will have a show and tell
And then she rang the big school bell
We all gathered round to show our stuff
But the principal began to strut

First she began to sway
And shouted isn’t this a fantastic day
I told her she was very good at prancing
And she should enter Strictly Come Dancing
We all looked from one to the other

Wonderful Easter Parade Presentation on Thursday

Blessed with truly beautiful weather, a superbly colourful display of magnificent Easter Bonnets by the children of Presentation N.S., Millstreet enchanted many people on Thursday, 29th March 2012 who were privileged to witness the children (with their teachers) on a special Easter Parade through the town from their School in West End to Supervalu in Minor Row. We are presently preparing a selection of images from the splendid annual event and these will gradually be uploaded on our website over the next few days. Here we view the overall group having visited Supervalu. We wish the children and their teachers a very Happy Easter Holiday. Herlihy’s Centra Presents New Team Jerseys to Millstreet BNS

Cloghoula N.S. Christmas Play …With a Fourth Wise Man!

An absolutely delightful Christmas Play with a fourth Wise Man received its premiere in Cloghoula N.S. on Wednesday, 21st Dec. 2011 before a hugely appreciative audience. We shall be featuring a very brief sequence from the performance on LTV2 on Christmas Day in the 11.30pm to midnight slot. Also included here with the pupils are Teacher Leo McCarthy and Principal Mary Murphy. (S.R.)

Presentation N.S. Children in a Wonderfully Charming Christmas Play

One of the many wonderfully charming scenes during a Nativity Play by the Junior Section of Presentation N.S., Millstreet at the G.A.A. Community Hall on Monday, 5th Dec. 2011. Meet the Author – Larry O’Loughlin

Larry O’Loughlin is a storyteller, author and playwright. He has written thirteen books for children and teenagers. Anne O’Flynn’s Magnificent Retirement Reception in Derrinagree on Thursday

Fifty-four New Junior Infants Begin Primary Education at Presentation N.S., Millstreet – Pictured Today for “The Corkman” Newspaper

The fifty-four new Junior Infants who have just begun school at Presentation N.S., Millstreet. Also included (from left) Joan O'Mahony, Principal and Teachers Anita Sherlock and Nora Murphy. The school's population has grown an amazing 57% over the past five years. Sheila Fitzgerald of "The Corkman" recorded some wonderful pictures today which will feature in that newspaper shortly. This year's intake of pupils is among the highest ever recorded over many decades. (S.R.)

Historic Move for Cullen N.S. Today

Bidding farewell this morning to Cullen N.S. situated on the main Mallow to Killarney road - Liam Fitzgerald, former Principal and Hannah Kelleher, present Principal of Cullen N.S. - as an enthusiastic voluntary group of helpers moved the furniture to the state-of-the-art new building across the road from Cullen Church within Cullen Village. A full feature of the "moving experience!" will appear shortly. (S.R.)

On The Passing Of Dick Kiely

Dick Kiely was the principal teacher when I was in primary school
And he seemed quite impartial and with fairness he did rule
He did not have his favourites as some other teachers had
A good and honest fellow and in him nothing bad.

A famous gaelic footballer when he was in his prime
But I never see him playing it was before my time
By all accounts the mighty Dick was a renowned athlete
One of the famous sportsmen for to represent Millstreet.

Upcoming Documentary Feature by William McSweeney & Friends

We shall soon be indicating a video link to a truly excellent video produced by William McSweeney, his Primary School Class from Cobh and RTÉ’s Jim Wilson.   William who lives and teaches in beautiful Cobh,  is of course a native of Killarney Road, Millstreet – is a gifted Musician, an inspiring Teacher and a real Expert in the area of Nature Study.   The Documentary is a gem and a delight… and deserves the highest of Oscars!

Updated: the video has been added below. It is 5th class pupils of Scoil Iosaef Naofa, Cobh, Co. Cork, Ireland (William’s class) as part of the International Schools Godwit Project, which is a co-operative international study between a school in Iceland, a school in Devon, England, and William’s class, in a joint effort to to link what the birds do on the wintering and breeding grounds in order to understand the factors that regulate the population size of a migratory bird species. Primary Grading Matches

Photo shows girls from Banteer NS and  Presentation NS Millstreet Camogie team (in blue) challenging for the sliotar in grading matches in Rathcoole on Thursday.

Both Millstreet teams qualified for the finals where, Millstreet Boys NS will be playing Kanturk in the Boys’ 10 Aside Hurling Final, while Presentation NS Millstreet will play Derinagree NS in the Girls’ 7 Aside Camogie Final which will be held on the 10th of June.

New Nano Nagle Wing Blessed Today at Presentation N.S., Millstreet

The new Nano Nagle Wing was today blessed by Bishop Bill Murphy at a very special ceremony in Presentation N.S., Millstreet. Following the concelebration of Mass in St. Patrick's Church the blessing took place followed by the planting of a symbolic tree. Lots more pictures of the truly historic event to follow in time.
