The Dancing Principal
A big congratulations to Presentation National School student Tia Kiely who has won a prize in the poetry category in the Listowel Writer’s Week Festival. Tia and her family will be attending a prize-giving ceremony at the end of the month and President Michael D. Higgins will be the special guest at this ceremony. Below is Tia with her poem:
The Dancing Principal
We have a dancing principal in our school
We all think she’s awesome and real cool
Once she said we will have a show and tell
And then she rang the big school bell
We all gathered round to show our stuff
But the principal began to strut
First she began to sway
And shouted isn’t this a fantastic day
I told her she was very good at prancing
And she should enter Strictly Come Dancing
We all looked from one to the other
And couldn’t wait to tell our mothers
She split us into little groups
Now she said I have my [read more …] “The Dancing Principal”

On The Passing Of Dick Kiely
Dick Kiely was the principal teacher when I was in primary school
And he seemed quite impartial and with fairness he did rule
He did not have his favourites as some other teachers had
A good and honest fellow and in him nothing bad.
A famous gaelic footballer when he was in his prime
But I never see him playing it was before my time
By all accounts the mighty Dick was a renowned athlete
One of the famous sportsmen for to represent Millstreet.
