Congratulations is due to Dan O’Donoghue, Lackabawn, Millstreet on his recent achievement of winning the Irish Coursing Club’s “Coursing Fantasy Competition.” This All-Ireland competition requires greyhound enthuasiasts to choose eight greyhounds from a list of hundreds at the start of the coursing season. Betting on Bruce

Thursday’s Examiner had a piece on up and coming local dog who looks like making a bit of name for himself:
“Crossfield Bruce, from the prolific Millstreet kennels of Brendan O’Shea (Cockhill), can land heat three of the Seftec NMCI Offshore A4 525 Stakes at Curraheen Park tonight. The selection is an improving sort, boasting a record of two wins from four starts, and can continue on an upward curve. Crossfield Bruce was soon at the head of affairs when scoring in 29.25 at the start of the month …”

Indeed he did land the 525 heat tonight in a time of 29.33, two lengths ahead of his nearest rival. He got a clean break from trap #6, led all the way, and the line came too soon for his challengers. See the video of the race below: [read more …] “Betting on Bruce”

2010 North Cork Cup winner: "Party Jay Cee"

THERE was a thrilling finish to the North Cork Cup at Millstreet, Co. Cork yesterday when Party Jay Cee came racing through to narrowly take the opening turn against Millbridge Eoin and capture the prize.
The winner had put out the overnight favourite, Blazing Serpent in the semi-final. He was away smartly from slips and although Blazing Serpent closed as they neared the hare he had to give best by a length. Millbridge Eoin saw off Tubbermartin Lad in his semi-final, taking the opening turn by three lengths. [read more …] “Coursing Results”

Game Protection Cup

The tragic death of former Irish Coursing Club chief executive Jerry Desmond recently has shocked the nationwide greyhound industry. An article in the Nationalist Newspaper this week also tells us that back in 1926, a dog owned by Jerry’s fathers dog “Mile Stream Boy” was the first man to win the Game Protection Cup when it was first run at Millstreet Coursing in 1926.

Last year, the Game Protection Cup was won by our own Donie O’Mahony with his dog Bridge Spirit, who also added the Oaks Trial Stake with his bitch Becky at the same meet.
