Junior B Hurling Final Tonght in the Park

Millstreet take on Banteer in the Final of the Duhallow Junior B Hurling League for 2009 in the Town Park tonight at 7:30. It was postponed at the end of last year due to a bereavement in the Banteer Club, and later because of the bad winter weather,  and is only being played now. Go down and give the lads your support this evening.

Result: they won a hard game by 2-8 to 0-6 in which they led by 1-4 to 0-2 at half time, but then looked like throwing away for the first 15 minutes of the second half as Banteer scored three points on the trot, before finding their footing again, popping over a few points, and then a late goal sealed the result.

Charity Cycle

On Friday evening (28th May) some sixteen energetic and enthusiastic cyclists took a well earned break for refreshments at Coleman’s Centra in Minor Row, Millstreet as they made progress on their four-day Mizen to Malin sponsored cycle tour of Ireland covering an amazing 100 miles a day! The inspiring sportspeople hail from Co.Tipperary and are members of the Ballinahinch Cycling Club. “Their local pub is the “Bonnán Buí” which is in fact the pub location used in the very popular Pat Shortt series “Killinascully”… ,” explained John O’Connell who was one of the co-ordinating supporters travelling with the cyclists. John (pictured on right in our picture) met with Don O’Riodan of Millstreet whom he had known from college days. The cyclists took part in this very deserving project in aid of Milford Hospice in Castletroy, Limerick.

Springfield 1 Millstreet Celtic 1

Millstreet Celtic just fell short at the final hurdle this morning when they failed to beat Springfield in the division 2A decider in Cobh. As detailed in a post this week, they had to win the game to overtake Springfield on top of the table in the last game of the season, but could only manage a 1-1 draw, conceding a goal with the last kick of the game after 8 minutes of extra time. Reports also that that there were also some unsavory scenes after the final whistle.

However, they are promoted to Division 1A where they will have to contend with local rivals Rathcoole Rovers. (note: from the comments below, it looks like they were not promoted after all 🙁 we’ll see in the next few days for certain.

See the discussion on foot.ie about the controversy at the end of the game

Millstreet Edge closer to Div 2A Title

Millstreet Celtic beat title title contenders Waterloo (from Rathduff) in their second last game of the season in the league. They have secured promotion for the season, but now they must win their final game against table toppers Springfield A (11.15am on Sunday morning at Pat O’Brien Park, Cobh) to lift the 2A title. Best of luck to the lads next Sunday.

Drake and Moynihan going to Coffs Harbour Rally

The Rallyschool.com.au Irish duo of Charlie Drake (Derinagree) and Eoin Moynihan (Ballydaly) are counting down the days until the next round of the Australian Rally Championship gets under way in Coffs Harbour on the 14th – 16th May. The pair are fired up after recording their best ever result in a NSW State Championship round, the Lithgow event, where they finished third overall.

“We were really happy with the result in Lithgow and to finish third overall was a great boost for our confidence. We were seeded car 16 so to have a joint fastest stage time and be consistently in the top three was really encouraging, so now we are really looking forward to Coffs,” Charlie said.
