Ducon Cup: Millstreet 1-8 Kanturk 1-8
AN injury-time goal from Eoghan O’Connor allowed Kanturk pull the game of the fire with a last ditch equalising strike against Millstreet in the Ducon Cup played in Millstreet on Friday night (5th March 2010).
With no shortage of commitment in evidence, it allowed an equitable outcome emerged as a fair outcome. However Kanturk left it late, O’Connor rising up amongst a cluster of players to punch home the all important goal.

Ducon Cup: Knocknagree 2-7 Millstreet 0-10
Millstreet faltered away to Knocknagree 2-7 to 0-10 in the Ducon Cup where goals either side of the interval paved the way for a home win. From a fast paced encounter, both sides enjoyed pockets of dominance yet Knocknagree just about deserved their three point win but not before they were made to sweat it out on a battling Millstreet.
A nip and tuck affair developed from the outset though Knocknagree shaded matters to secure a 1-3 to 0-4 interval advantage.
Back came a dogged Millstreet upon the resumption with Desmond O’Sullivan, Brian Sheahan and Mark Ellis to the fore. Points to Michael Murphy, Michael Vaughan and John Lehane offered encouragement.
However Knocknagree held the facility to respond and despite Millstreet’s best intentions, the game was wrapped up in favour of the home side with a late goal.
Millstreet lined out as Denis Kiely, Kevin Hickey, Desmond O’Sullivan, Patrick Randles, Donal O’Sullivan, Brian Sheahan, Eamon O’Keeffe, Patrick Coleman, Mark Ellis, Michael Murphy, Tadgh Collins, Michael Vaughan, Darren Murphy, John Lehane, James Broxton. Subs. Timothy Kiely, Eoin Crowley, Conor Lane.
Billy Coleman – Tarmac Titan DVD
Billy Coleman was Irelands most successful rally driver ever. He first came to province in 1969 in rather tatty self-prepared green Mark I Escort (TIU 250) on the Circuit of Ireland when he took special stage time off the works Escort of Rodger Clark which was almost unheard of at the time. Billy was born in 1948 in Millstreet. From an early age he developed an interest in motor cars, confessing for the bug when he sat up on his fathers knee to drive the car when he was five years old. His father owned a garage in Milstreet and was the Ford Main Dealer which helped nurture Billy’s interest in cars.
Billy is famous in rallying circles all over Ireland for his exploits in the 70s and 80s, in Ireland, Britain, and even as far away as Poland, Corsica and Monte Carlo.
A DVD on Billy’s exploits in the Irish Tarmac Championship is available to buy from Murray Motorsport amongst others.
Also added below are loads photos of the cars that he drove.
There is also a great website with loads of info all about Billy’s racing career.

St. Johns Football Club
DUHALLOW has welcomed a new club on the launch of the newly formed St John’s GAA club. The club takes its name from a landmark in the Aubane area and those associated with St John’s have a good reason to look forward with a buzz of exciting anticipation for the season that lays ahead.
It’s all of 28 years since a GAA club operated in the area.
For all concerned, it’s a challenging task in difficult times, yet meetings to date have delivered a positive and decidedly upbeat message about St John’s club on and off the field.
Officers elected for 2010 are President Denis Kelleher, Chairman John Twomey, Vice Chairman Jerry Kelleher, Secretary Don O’Riordan, Joint Treasurers Gerdi Buckley and Michael O’Riordan.
Currently they are training two nights a week, and new members are welcome to join the setup.
Vaughan tastes All Ireland Glory
Millstreet’s Michael Vaughan won All Ireland with the Vocational Schools footballers last Saturday February 28th. Vaughan worked hard and played well throughout and notched up two points for his efforts as Cork edged out Monaghan on a scoreline of 3-8 to 2-7.
The match report below is from the Southern Star:
Sweet revenge for Cork as they shaded a gripping duel with Monaghan to lift the All-Ireland Vocational Schools senior football championship title in Dr. Cullen Park, Carlow, last Saturday.
It was Cork’s second victory in the final against Monaghan in three seasons, but they had been ousted at the semi-final stage in 2009 by the Farney County students, who went on to replace them as champions.
Drake wins Premier League at Rally Tasmania
Check out the off road ‘moment’ at 5:30 in the above video! – “I was thankful that the tyres found some grip and just barely pulled the car away from the rock bank”
Charlie Drake and Eoin Moynihan took Premier League honours in last weekend’s Rally Tasmania. Here’s Charlie’s report on the weekend…..
We had a really good weekend in Tassie and are happy we got the premier league points which was the aim for the weekend.
It was a last minute decision to do Rally Tasmania but I had never been there and I’d always wanted to try a tarmac rally so on the day the entries closed I rang Dasher(Darren Williams) and asked him could the car be repaired from the off in Batemans Bay last year? I got my answer quickly and it was a BIG NO…. but a miracle happened and the boys made the impossible possible. We were three hours late for scrunity – that’s how last minute the final car assembly was…….

U21 Championship: Millstreet 1-7 Kanturk 0-9
MILLSTREET produced a ripple of a surprise to shade matters over Kanturk in the opening round to the Duhallow U21FC played in Millstreet last Friday night.
For long stages, a sharper Millstreet looked the more complete side, their passing, teamwork and workrate commendable. Holding a two point interval advantage, Millstreet doubled their advantage upon the resumption.
However, Kanturk summoned a brave comeback and came ever so close to forcing the game into extra time. Millstreet’s game demanded a brand of defiance and they had it in abundance during the closing stages to swing matters.
