Betting on Bruce

Thursday’s Examiner had a piece on up and coming local dog who looks like making a bit of name for himself:
“Crossfield Bruce, from the prolific Millstreet kennels of Brendan O’Shea (Cockhill), can land heat three of the Seftec NMCI Offshore A4 525 Stakes at Curraheen Park tonight. The selection is an improving sort, boasting a record of two wins from four starts, and can continue on an upward curve. Crossfield Bruce was soon at the head of affairs when scoring in 29.25 at the start of the month …”

Indeed he did land the 525 heat tonight in a time of 29.33, two lengths ahead of his nearest rival. He got a clean break from trap #6, led all the way, and the line came too soon for his challengers. See the video of the race below: [read more …] “Betting on Bruce”

Millstreet Celtic v Buttevant B – 13/03/2011

We were beaten 2-1 at home in the County Cup by Buttevant B on Sunday morning. We started the game well and had early chances for Barry Lawlor, Tim Kiely and Michael Murphy which we failed to convert and shortly after Danny O Riordan hit the crossbar with a header. Our tempo dropped after that and Buttevant started to come into the game a lot more. Despite that, they didn’t create many chances and we should have taken the lead just before half time. Paul Dawson was one on one with the keeper but lifted his shot just over the bar to leave the sides level at half time. The second half was very scrappy with few chances for either side. Buttevant took the lead in the 75th minute following some sloppy defending and another mistake 5 mins later put them 2 ahead. We got one back straight away when Chris Cleary headed back across the goal for Dawson to finish but we couldn’t find the second goal in the remaining 5 minutes.

Team: Piotr Oziat, Danny O Riordan, Donal O Riordan, Tim Kiely, Finbarr Corcoran, John Lehane, Barry Lawlor, Chris Cleary, Michael Murphy, Paul Dawson, John Cullinane

Macroom 1 Millstreet Celtic 1

Millstreet Celtic drew 1-1 with Macroom this afternoon away from home. They started the game very well and had the ball in the net after 15 mins through Chris Cleary but it was ruled out for a very tight offside. Cleary had another chance just after but shot wide and Barry Lawlor had a good strike charged down by a defender. They couldn’t capitalise on the possession though and went in level at half time. The second half was more of the same but they finally took the lead after 60 mins. Lawlor swung in a corner and Tadhg Collins powered home the header. Macroom came back at us but didn’t create many chances and they almost doubled their lead on 70 mins when a cracking volley from [read more …] “Macroom 1 Millstreet Celtic 1”

Waterloo 0 Millstreet Celtic 2

Report by Tim Kiely – We beat Waterloo 2-0 away from home in Rathduff this afternoon at 2pm. The game was a bit scrappy for the first 15 mins with neither side creating much. We started to take hold of the game then though and had a good chance through Tadhg Collins which went just wide. After 25 mins we got the breakthrough when Barry Lawlor was fouled in the box. Tim Kiely stepped up and slotted home for 1-0. We created a lot of chances after that but Collins, Chris Cleary and Michael Murphy were all off target for good positions. Just before half time Lawlor hit the post so we somehow went in at half time just a goal to the good. The 2nd half continued in the same vein and we made it 2-0 after 65 mins. John Lehane was fouled on the edge of the area and Collins fired the resulting free into the bottom corner. We should have added a couple more before the finish but it ended 2-0 and a good 3 points in the bag. Best for us on the day were Danny O Riordan, John Lehane and Trevor O Connor.
