Inter City Celtic 1 – 5 Millstreet Celtic

Inter City Celtic 1 – 5 Millstreet Celtic – FAI Junior Cup – 17/10/2010

Millstreet Celtic took the lead after 15 mins when Tadhg Collins got free down the left and squared it for Finbarr Corcoran to slot home. Corcoran made it 2 less 10 mins later with a cracking drive from out side the box. In the 35th min we made it 3-0. Michael Murphy picked up the ball just inside the inter city half and went on a great dribble which finished with an excellent strike past the keeper. We conceded 10 mins into the second half but didn’t have to wait long to make it 4. Collins was fouled outside the box and got up to lash home from the resulting free kick. He then grabbed his 2nd of the game in the 70th min with a strong run and finish having been played on by Paul Dawson. We had a few more chances before the end but couldn’t add to our tally. Best for us on the day were Michael Murphy, Tadhg Collins and Finbarr Corcoran. – Report by Tim Kiely

Millstreet Celtic 1 – 0 Waterloo

26/Sept/2010 – Both teams were slow to get going in the first half and it took until the 25th min for the first half chance. A corner broke to Brian Murphy but his shot struck Tadhg Collins on the way and was cleared. At the other end Waterloo had a couple of half chances as well but the defence and keeper dealt with them well. The second half started much the same but we began to find a bit more space after the first 20 mins. Paul Dawson and Chris Cleary had chances but we had to wait until the 75th min to take the lead. Dawson played a ball through for Collins who got around his man on the end line and squared it [read more …] “Millstreet Celtic 1 – 0 Waterloo”

Millstreet Celtic 3 City Wanderers 2

We beat City Wanderers 3-2 in CIT this morning (Sunday 5th September). City Wanderers started better but were unable to create much until they went ahead after 20 mins with a well worked goal. We responded well and had a great chance for Chris Cleary but his shot went over the bar. 5 mins before half time we were level. Finbarr Corcoran sent a long ball out of defense and Tadhg Collins beat the keeper in a race for the ball to slot home. The second half saw us dominate but [read more …] “Millstreet Celtic 3 City Wanderers 2”

Millstreet Celtic 3 Macroom B 2

3rd September 2010: We got off to the perfect start with a goal in the 3rd minute. A free kick from Tadhg Collins was saved by the keeper but Michael Murphy was following it in and finished to give us the lead. We had a couple of half chances in the next 20 mins but Macroom were dangerous when they went forward as well. In the 25th minute Mark Ellis received the ball on the wing and played a clever pass inside for M Murphy who rifled a volley to the top corner from the edge of the box to make it 2-0. We got a bit sloppy for the last 10 of the half but went in to the break 2-0 up. We picked up our game at the start of the 2nd half and went 3-0 up after 55 mins. From a corner on the left, Finbarr Corcoran saw his header saved but the rebound fell to Paul Dawson who slotted home. We sat back to quickly after this goal and were punished 5 mins later when they scored from a corner. 10 mins later they scored again to set up a nervy last 20 mins but we held on for an important 3 points. Best on the day for us were Eamon O Keeffe, Finbarr Corcoran and Michael Murphy.

Millstreet Celtic 4 Killowen 0

A.U.L. 2A – Millstreet Celtic 4 Killowen 0 (Thursday 26th August)

Killowen’s first away fixture of the campaign ended in defeat as costly errors in the second period contributed to Millstreet’s victory. Despite a promising first half showing, Killowen faded badly in the final quarter, as Millstreet’s superior fitness and teamwork prevented any notions of a Killowen comeback. The Killowen line up featured new signing Jason Mc Carthy in midfield with experienced ‘keeper Eamonn Murphy resuming in goal. Millstreet opened with a number of long range efforts that didn’t trouble Murphy whereas Killowen’s main source of attack stemmed from Pa Bermingham’s excursions down the left wing. Millstreet had a goal disallowed for pushing in the area before Owen Braun set up Declan O’ Brien after 27 minutes but his effort was blocked. [read more …] “Millstreet Celtic 4 Killowen 0”

Springfield 1 Millstreet Celtic 1

Millstreet Celtic just fell short at the final hurdle this morning when they failed to beat Springfield in the division 2A decider in Cobh. As detailed in a post this week, they had to win the game to overtake Springfield on top of the table in the last game of the season, but could only manage a 1-1 draw, conceding a goal with the last kick of the game after 8 minutes of extra time. Reports also that that there were also some unsavory scenes after the final whistle.

However, they are promoted to Division 1A where they will have to contend with local rivals Rathcoole Rovers. (note: from the comments below, it looks like they were not promoted after all 🙁 we’ll see in the next few days for certain.

See the discussion on foot.ie about the controversy at the end of the game

Millstreet Edge closer to Div 2A Title

Millstreet Celtic beat title title contenders Waterloo (from Rathduff) in their second last game of the season in the league. They have secured promotion for the season, but now they must win their final game against table toppers Springfield A (11.15am on Sunday morning at Pat O’Brien Park, Cobh) to lift the 2A title. Best of luck to the lads next Sunday.

Millstreet Celtic still battling for Division 2A title
