Drishanebeg Train Ambush Centenary Commemoration Committee
At a meeting during the centenary commemorations it was proposed that a plaque should be erected to mark the actual site of the ambush for future generations. With the kind permission of Michael, Pam and the Thornton Family and with the support of the Committee (some who are now deceased – May they Rest in Peace) – the plaque (pictured above) has now been erected at the site of the ambush.
A meeting of Dromtariffe Community Alert will be held at the Parish Hall on 15th Feb. 2024 at 8pm. It is vital that a member of each household attends so we can continue to take care of each other. (We thank Séamus for the important Notice)

Most recent drone footage of the western side of the new N22 Macroom & Ballyvourney bypass. Flying east to west this clip shows the nest section of the new road that is to be opened later this week. This section will bypass the winding road people will be familiar with, just east of Ballymakeera village.
Great credit is due to Millstreet Tidy Towns Association for the dedicated coordination of arranging to put in place a magnificent new Mural at Minor Row. Neil O’Dwyer, Artist Supreme, from Tipperary is presently carrying out the splendid task at the Minor Row entrance to the Fair Field. Well done also to the O’Riordan Family for according permission to place the beautiful Mural on the gable end of their Family home. Millstreet has always been famous in the equestrian world with the two most important Horse Fairs of the year taking place in March and in September. The splendid Mural is therefore most apt for this particular location and indeed for the entire town. When fully completed it will look truly remarkable. Here we share a selection of images reflecting on the wonderfully uplifting development. Tap on the images to enlarge. (S.R.)

Acknowledgement and First Anniversary

Gillian Daly
Douglas, Cork / Millstreet
The family of the late Gillian Daly of Douglas, Cork and formally of Liscahane, Millstreet,
wishes to acknowledge the many expressions of sympathy and gestures of kindness shown
to us following our sad loss.
We offer our heartfelt thanks to the many friends, neighbours and well-wishers who visited
our home, attended the wake, mass and burial and who provided emotional and practical
support for us over the past year. For those who telephoned, travelled long distances, sent
floral tributes, cards, letters and messages of condolences, to our neighbours and friends
who lined the streets and roads on Gillian’s final journey; we are truly grateful.
A special word of thanks to the emergency services who attended to Gillian and for their
respect and kindness. To all those who participated in the mass, especially Canon John
Fitzgerald, P.P., Fr. Richard Dowling, Sharon Lane, Julie Brady and to our neighbours Siobhán
and Mary Forde who provided such a beautiful send off.
To those who helped in any way, your contribution made our loss more bearable. As it
would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as
an expression of our deepest gratitude. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for
your intentions.
The First Anniversary Mass for Gillian will be held on Saturday June 3 rd , in Carmelite Friary,
Kinsale at 10am and she will be remembered also at 6.15pm mass in St Patrick’s Church,
Millstreet.
She was beauty, grace and kindness and will not be forgotten.

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to my weekly Report.
Blue skies, lovely sunshine and a gentle breeze not an easy time to settle down to write. But there is a fine wash blowing on the line, so let that be my consolation. Good for You, Mother Nature.
The month of May is fading fast but not without proof that it’s a good one. The silage season is in full swing and by all accounts the yield is good. Grass lands and cornfields also. These are the most important features in any year. To see the food crops doing well is reason enough for us all to rejoice. The white thorns are weighed down with flowers and there is a huge crab-apple tree on our road and the show of blossoms has to be seen to be believed and as I mentioned our road. The County Council have spent a lot of time and effort cleaning the margins all the way from Church Street to Kilmeedy Bridge. No half measures, they took away all the growth right in to the wall/ditch. Which is great. Trouble is that people still continue to throw litter out of their cars and with no grass margins to hide them they completely ruin the whole scene. We can only ask the offenders to please change their ways and remind them once again that a hefty fine awaits anybody who is caught. The anti-litter applies to both town and country areas .
