Methodist Meeting next Sunday

Our next meeting in Millstreet is on Sunday 14th March at 7.00 p. m. in the Canon O’Donovan Centre on Clara Road. As always everyone is welcome. Our meeting this month is very close to St. Patrick’s Day and so we will be thinking a little bit about Patrick’s life and lessons that we can learn from it. We will be looking together at some sections of the two short documents which historians are almost certain were actually written by Patrick himself. There is a lot in them about Patrick’s life and faith which can challenge and encourage us in our walk with God today.

As well as thinking about Patrick on Sunday night we will also have our usual informal time of worship and prayer. Hope to see you there.

Community School “Welcome the World” tonight

Prepare to welcome the world to Millstreet! That’s the message from the Transition Year students at Millstreet Community School as they prepare to host the fourth annual World Wide Welcome multicultural event this Thursday, March 11 in the school library.

Starting at 7pm, the evening is a celebration of the diversity of cultures that now exist within the school and in the local community, and comprises song, dance, music and poetry, along with the chance to sample cuisine prepared by people from many of the 20 nationalities now present in the locality. Admission is free.

The students have been very busy preparing for the event, and three different groups have taken on the tasks of planning and preparation for the event.

Labour of Millstreet’s keeper of the archive is never-ending

Somewhere 100 years from now in an office full of yet undreamed of computer gadgetry, a historian will take a break from work, look into the middle distance and marvel at Sean Radley. Sean Radley, probably even as you read this, is busy recording the life and times of an entire community, his beloved home town of Millstreet in north Cork. Thanks to Sean, almost every minute detail of Millstreet life – social, sporting, political, business, religious and much more – has been captured over 30 years, first on cine film, then in photographs, on audio tape, and, more recently again, on video.

The result is an astonishing archive of material – almost 30,000 photographs, over 2,500 audio tapes, 500 video tapes and thousands of…

Ducon Cup: Knocknagree 2-7 Millstreet 0-10

Millstreet faltered away to Knocknagree 2-7 to 0-10 in the Ducon Cup where goals either side of the interval paved the way for a home win. From a fast paced encounter, both sides enjoyed pockets of dominance yet Knocknagree just about deserved their three point win but not before they were made to sweat it out on a battling Millstreet.

A nip and tuck affair developed from the outset though Knocknagree shaded matters to secure a 1-3 to 0-4 interval advantage.

Back came a dogged Millstreet upon the resumption with Desmond O’Sullivan, Brian Sheahan and Mark Ellis to the fore. Points to Michael Murphy, Michael Vaughan and John Lehane offered encouragement.

However Knocknagree held the facility to respond and despite Millstreet’s best intentions, the game was wrapped up in favour of the home side with a late goal.

Millstreet lined out as Denis Kiely, Kevin Hickey, Desmond O’Sullivan, Patrick Randles, Donal O’Sullivan, Brian Sheahan, Eamon O’Keeffe, Patrick Coleman, Mark Ellis, Michael Murphy, Tadgh Collins, Michael Vaughan, Darren Murphy, John Lehane, James Broxton. Subs. Timothy Kiely, Eoin Crowley, Conor Lane.
