Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a Cairde and welcome to News report 1045 from Millstreet.
Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this very cold but dry, Tuesday morning.
A special New Year Greeting to William Foley, Cork city Busman and his wife Phil, they listen in to the repeats of C103 programs at night when he comes in from work and never misses my news report.
And now I want to wish you all a very Happy and prosperous New Year.
It was indeed a Christmas with a difference, right throughout Europe and beyond. And leaving many people, never wanting to see a white Christmas again. The happenings were well published, so there is no need for me to go down that road, but it has to be said that merit due to all those involved in the travel business, who bore the stresses and strains of it all, without one loss of life or even an injury.
But the worst of situations always brings out a lot of good and it was great to hear of all the acts of kindness that came to the fore. People looked after needy neighbours, etc. and the feeding of the birds was a pastime in itself. A thrush feeding off the window sill can add joy to even the worst of days. Frozen water systems brought their own difficulties and for the first time ever when people were invited to a party, they were asked to please bring water as well as the customary bottle of wine.
