James Cronin
hi, i wrote to you to last year looking for help in finding my grandfather. Since then i have found out a little bit; his name was James Cronin whose father was Jeremiah. We found out his mother’s name was Maria Dennehy. They had lived in Skagh?? My grandfather was born on September 1915 i am looking for any information on what happened to him after 1941. I know he married Ellen Shine in June of that year but not much else. I know he had at least one brother, and maybe 2 sisters. Any help would be great. Absolutly love the site. Great for keeping up with local news. Tks again for any help.

Regional Report 1046 – 11th January 2011
Eily Buckley
Dia is mhuire diobh go eir a cairde and welcome to news report 1046 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this calm rather wet Tuesday morning the 11th January 2011.
And still with the Wallis Arms the Party to celebrate the Women’s Christmas was an outstanding success there on the 6th of January. 172 women of all ages enjoyed good food and wine, good music, scores of spot prizes all for a mere €20 per ticket. And when all expenses were paid €340 was left over and it was donated to Breast Cancer Research.
From once the first note was played by the popular Kelt the floor filled up with dancers and remained so till the National Anthem was played well after midnight.
The organiser Mairead Daly can take a bow for being the first one to hold a bash for the ladies, in Millstreet, on their Christmas night, She wants to say a sincere word of thanks to all those who helped in any way to make it the outstanding success that it was.
Sadly, due to the huge demand for tickets, many were left without, and so great was their disappointment that they have already booked their place for next year. Over 40% of the tickets for next January are sold already.
Millstreet President
While discussing Presidential candidates in the upcoming Presidential Election (which is due to take place next October), on TV3’s Midday Show yesterday (10th Jan 2011), on which Aileen Hickie (formerly of the Square) was appearing as a guest, it was suggested (TIC) that maybe the next President could come from Millstreet!: you can see the crossfire from 32:00 minutes in the video:
Elaine Crowley: Aileen, do you have any particular preference?
Aileen: … I’d like a southerner, we’ve had a northerner for the past 14 years, no harm to move it back to the other end of the country.
Fiona McLaughtlain: Now when you say southerner, do you mean Cork specifically?
Aileen: Well I wouldn’t if it was mind Munster, I’m not saying Cork, but Munster. Not just anyone from Millstreet … I mean if they were from Munster, I’d be happy enough. [read more …] “Millstreet President”
