Sincere thanks to one of the dedicated Organisers, Michael Thornton,  for a splendid selection of images which he captured so well as he acted as “Sweeper” (the Guide who keeps to the rear of the Walking Group) on the most challenging of the three walks (Walk A) on both the Saturday and the Sunday.   Here we share images from [read more …] “Michael Thornton’s Splendid Images of Saturday’s Walking Festival”

Millstreet Celtic beat Leeview 5-4

Millstreet Celtic  beat Leeview 5-4 at home this morning. We took an early lead through Tadhg Collins after he outmuscled a defender and finished well. We kept the pressure on and were awarded a penalty in the 20th min when Barry Lawlor was tripped in the box after a good run. Tim Kiely slotted home the penalty to make it 2-0. 10 mins later it was 3-0. Eamon O Keeffe played a ball over the top for Collins to run on to and he made no mistake for his 2nd of the day. Collins grabbed his hat trick 5 mins before half time with a neat finish after being sent through by Finbarr Corcoran. 4-0 up at the start of the 2nd half but we didn’t keep up the pressure as we had wanted to. Leeview got one back after 55 mins and made it 4-2 after 65 following some poor defending. We scored again 5 mins later though when Chris Cleary’s overhead kick found the net from Kiely’s through ball. Still we weere sloppy all over the field and conceded again in the 80th and 89th mins to set up a nervy 5 mins of injury time. We held on for the 3 points though despite a poor 2nd half. Best for us on the day were Tadhg Collins, Finbarr Corcoran and Barry Lawlor.

Team: Piotr Oziat, Finbarr Corcoran, Eamon O Keeffe, Trevor O Connor, Mick Collins, Tim Kiely, Barry Lawlor, Chris Cleary, Michael Murphy, Tadhg Collins, Paul Dawson

Subs: John Cullinane (45th min), Jer Keating (75th min), Danny O Riordan

Visiting Walkers Hugely Impressed by Millstreet Walking Festival 2011

Returning from the Saturday walk to the Wallis Arms Hotel.   All Walkers were required to register again at the Hotel to indicate that they had safely returned.

There was a superbly uplifting response to Millstreet’s first Walking Festival with organisers already considering another such Festival in the Autumn.    Amongst those who enthusiastically participated in Saturday’s walk were Millstreet natives who are now living elsewhere including  [read more …] “Visiting Walkers Hugely Impressed by Millstreet Walking Festival 2011”
