The Secret History of the Eurovision Song Contest

Last September (2010) and Australian Film crew rolled into Millstreet, to shoot part of a documentary on the history of the Eurovision Song Contest (held in Millstreet 2011). They received a great welcome from the locals as normal, and had a great few days here. The documentary is called The Secret History of Eurovision Song Contest was aired yesterday (Monday 2nd May) on RTE1. An open invitation from Macroom Toastmasters.

A new member of Macroom Toastmasters from Millstreet suggested we make use of the great resource that is Millstreet.ie to get the word out there on what we can offer the public. There is a widespread perception that Toastmaster’s is at best all about windbags droning on for hours, and at worst, it involves all sorts of outdated rituals. Neither are true.

Toastmasters is all about helping people to overcome their fear of public speaking, and to help people with their communication skills generally. Examples of where Macroom Toastmasters have helped out some members in the past include:

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this fine rich but cool Tuesday morning, following the welcome rain.

The long awaited Monster MAC came and went over the weekend.  A community effort, it marks yet another encouraging  feature in our annual calendar . One hundred and sixty six people took part in this challenging event, both men and women and the feedback is most encouraging. The compliments are flooding in from participants from all over the country as well as from the organisers, Marie Griffen, Paul  Mahon & Hilary  Jenkinson, They gave great praise to Hannelie O Connor, for her wonderful help and expertise.  And she in turn wants to thank the many local Marshals, volunteers etc. Because of their outstanding help and dedication The Monster MAC is to come to Millstreet again next year.le conamh De.  Testimonials of the event can be read here

Many congratulations to our own Brian Murphy who came fourth  in the Expert Section, which was won by Mike O Brien , with Tom Palmer coming first in the Sports section.  Baoichas le Dia the weather was great and our beautiful scenery came in for a lot of mention.

John P Kelleher – Shave or Dye

On Friday 29th April in Carriganima at the Night of Madness, John P Kelleher shaved his head and beard for the Irish Cancer Society, To date he has raised €2300.
