Message from Margaret and the hamper packers

3

Margaret Crean  and Maureen O Sullivan like to thank everyone for the generous supply of food stuffs and clothing donated to the above Christmas appeal 2012. This year we had plenty of support, young and not so young, from north Cork to help sort out the collected items. Plus a group of volunteers, mainly students and some parents from Bishoptown Secondary school . Under the guidance of Maureen O Sullivan, everyone distributed the donated food/Items between approx 20 Christmas parcels for the homeless, 6 hampers for needy families and what was left over was taken to Edel house a shelter that is available for homeless women and children in Cork .

It was wonderful to see so many young people giving up their time at Christmas.

Regular volunteers delivered the food parcels to the homeless, later that night

Dia is Mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1148 from Millstreet.

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best as I welcome you all to the year 2013, on this nice calm Tuesday morning.

Christmas is over for another year and life is returning to normal as we head off into the New Year. We had a wonderful Christmas, in that we had no sensations or tragedies during the Festive Season.  Our streets were lit up in a manner which our town could afford and the shops and services did well.

Local Voluntary bodies made every effort to make it a good Christmas for everyone. Church services were a joy, with all three churches of the parish brightly lit and suitably decorated, and well trained choirs filling them with the message of Christmas. All the Schools did the story of Christmas.

150 people did the annual Christmas Day Climb of Mushera Mountain on Christmas Day and raised great money in aid of Suicide Awareness.

Our lovely Pipe Band played in the New Year in their own inimitable way as they do every year.

Millstreet Group set to leave Dairygold

From the Farmers Journal (Jan 5th): A significant number of Dairygold suppliers have reportedly sent in notice to Dairygold co-op of their intention to leave Dairygold once the obligatory three months notice has elapsed.

We have unconfirmed reports that between 30 to 60 farmers (58 to be exact) have sent in notice to leave the co-op in protest over the Dairygold contracts that were sent to suppliers. Dairygold suppliers have until 31 March to sign up and return milk contracts.

It is believed the main body of farmers involved in this action are from the Millstreet/North Cork area and reportedly are leaving Dairygold co-op to supply the smaller North Cork co-ops. Pre-Christmas we reported on a stormy Millstreet meeting and over the last number of days some smaller meetings have taken place, resulting in some farmers deciding [read more …] “Millstreet Group set to leave Dairygold”

Drishane Castle Concert Venue

2013-01-07 Drishane from the airCon O’Donovan who is promoting Drishane Castle as a concert venue has been interviewed recently on two radio stations, Bondi Tunes Radio in Australia (listen above), and Dublin City FM (listen below). The aim is to bring large national and international music events to Drishane. The project is due to go for planning permission in the next few weeks. It would be great to see concerts come back to Millstreet after many were held in the Green Glens in the last 20 years.

To find out more, and to give your support to the project, see the Drishane Castle Concert Venue facebook page.
