Farther Joe Breen, Chaplin Drishane Convent

Hello,
I am hoping for some assistance/information concerning Father Joe Breen who was transferred from Tralee to Drishane Convent in 1916 due to his involvement with the Irish Volunteers. He was still in Milltown in 1921 but I have so far been unable to find further reference to him after that.

I am keen to acquire any and all information that is available regarding him including his relationship (if any) to Miss Kate Breen of Killarney. She was Chairperson of the Kerry Board of Assistance and Health from 1927 until her death in 1937. They were both active in Kerry during Easter week 1916 and knew each other but I am unsure of their family ties if such exit.

Drama: Callaghan’s Place

Update – 20th Nov: Unfortunately the show has had to be cancelled due to a bereavement associated with the drama group. The show has been rescheduled for January 2016.

Killorglin Drama Group present their new production of “Callaghan’s Place”. A two-act play by renowned Sligo-born playwright John Mc Dwyer, (works include ‘Unforgiven’, ‘You’ll never walk alone’, ‘Love is’ and more), it tells the tale of a family struggling to cope with economic and social life. An only daughter is about to leave home. Her father is besotted and bereft at the thought; her mother is ignored and unhappy. Enter an Englishman of unknown reputation or origin into “Callaghan’s Place”, and the tale follows the community’s fascination and curiosity. Who is he, where has he come from and what did he do? The intrigue builds into a crescendo through lively scenes of rich dialogue. This interpretation by Killorglin Drama Group brings the setting to a rural Kerry scene and the storytelling is punctuated throughout with heartfelt truths and hilarious metaphors, guaranteeing a very enjoyable evening’s entertainment!

Thursday and Friday times of opening are 6pm to 10pm whilst the Saturday

and Sunday times are noon to 8pm.

Admission is €10 (which includes refreshments)

And all the proceeds will be Clonakilty, Bantry, Dunmanway, Castletownbere,

Skibbereen and Ataxia (Frederic) Bandon.

Generous donations to Team Hope’s Shoebox Appeal

IMG_1905-Copy1-1000Thanks to everyone for their efforts with regards to the Team Hope Shoebox appeal. Over 300 boxes were brought to Millstreet Community School from Rathcoole National School, Millstreet Boys National School, Presentation Convent National School Millstreet, Knocknagree National School and by pupils of Millstreet Community School. Thanks also go to the members of the Transition Year ‘youth for justice’ group in the Community School for sorting all the boxes and getting them ready for collection.
