Millstreet Community School Christmas Draw in aid of Cork Simon Community
The Transition Year students of Millstreet Community School have decided to support the valuable work of Cork Simon Community in the run-up to Christmas by holding a MONSTER CHRISTMAS DRAW. From Monday 30th November students from all year groups in the school will be able to collect cards from which you can purchase a line (or as many as you’d like) for €0.50/line. Students who return fully filled sheets will receive a selection box.
“The Simon Communities throughout Ireland provide care, accommodation and support for people experiencing homelessness and those at risk. Together, with people who are homeless, Simon tackles the root causes, promotes innovative responses and urges the government to fulfill their commitments. Simon delivers support and service to over 5,000 individuals and families who experience – or are at risk of – homelessness on an annual basis.
The Cork Simon Outreach Team met 89 people sleeping rough on the streets of Cork in October 2015. An average of over 12 people per night were sleeping rough.
From street to home, Cork Simon Community stays with people for as long as they need support. Simon’s Homeless Emergency Support Services work with people one-to-one, responding to all of their needs with the aim of housing people as quickly as possible. Their Housing and Support Services work with people to maintain their tenancies in housing appropriate to their needs, and to support them to reconnect with family and the wider community.” (see www.simon.ie & www.corksimon.ie)
The draw to find the winner will take place on Wednesday 16th December. The top prizes are beautiful pieces of pottery created by Millstreet Community School’s art teacher, Mr. Barry Fraser (see photograph). Other prizes include tubs of chocolates.
