Due to the fact that we shall be recording the wonderful Parade through Millstreet at 6:30 this evening and afterwards the superb musical entertainment in Green Glens there will not be any “Radio Treasures” broadcast tonight. However, we have a very special Knock Shrine Report next Tuesday when we also reveal a very special Millstreet connection with Knock Museum.

Dia is Muire díobh go léir a chairde and welcome to my report from Millstreet. It’s hard to think of anything else here in Millstreet this week other than the World Mounted Team Games Championships.
It’s a long name for any event but it’s worth it all when you think of this event which is bringing 20 teams from all over the globe into Millstreet,representing Ireland ,Northern Ireland, France, Belgium, South Africa, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Scotland, England, Wales, Italy, New Zealand, America, Australia & Canada. The Championships are held in a different country every year. This year it’s in Millstreet , Ireland. Rathmore C.E. Scheme is designed to help long term unemployed people by offering part-time [19.5 hours per week] temporary job placements within our Community.
There are a range of groups that we work with: St Joseph’s Daycare Centre. Teach Iosagan, Gneeveguilla GAA. All offer different work opportunities depending on current vacancies.
We will work with participants to up-skill and retrain by providing certified training in addition to work experience. Current vacancies are listed on Jobsireland.ie.

Unveiling of a Monument to the ‘Bard’
UNVEILING OF A MONUMENT TO ‘THE BARD’ AT 2PM ON SUNDAY, 14TH AUGUST AT THE KERRYMANS TABLE ON THE BUTTER ROAD IN AUBANE
Seán Riobaird O Súilleabháin was the acknowledged leader of the Land War in the North Cork area. He was universally known as ‘the Bard’ though he was not a poet but the nickname was taken from the Irish of name, Riobaird. He played such a distinctive role that he had to have a recognisable nickname.
He was born in Glenleigh, Kilcorney on the 4th of February 1852 and became involved in the Land War in the late 1870s when the Land League was leading the struggle for tenant farmers’ rights. Because of his courage and daring in the Land War he quickly became a hero to the people but public enemy number one for the authorities in North Cork.
His wife, Ellen O Mullane was a devoted wife and partner in his struggles. They lived in a house supplied by the Land League in Glantane East.
With constant harassment and convictions the authorities were determined to remove him from the leadership but could not do so in his native area as no jury would convict him… [read more …] “Unveiling of a Monument to the ‘Bard’”
World Mounted Games 2016 at Green Glens – Parade Schedule This Evening
The much anticipated Parade through Millstreet Town commences this Tuesday evening (12th July) at 6:30 with the 150 ponies and riders from some 20 countries participating in the superbly colourful event. The schedule is as follows:
Ponies leave Green Glens and trot through the town up to the Fair Field where they will then arrange to organise in teams of five taking their place behind Millstreet Pipe Band which will be waiting at the Eurovision Wall in Minor Row.
The Parade then proceeds up Minor Row to The Square where each team will pause in front of the Reviewing Stand which is located on the extended footpath in front of the Wallis Arms Hotel – to be officially welcomed – country by country.
Millstreet Pipe Band will continue to play in The Square as each Team pauses, is introduced and then proceeds down Main Street, down Station Road to the Green Glens Arena where magnificent musical entertainment will be provided by the very famous Liam O’Connor and his truly marvellous Group.
